Model Year vs. Production Month?

Is there a standard month of the year that Toyota switches to the next model year? Example - I have a Model 1997 4Runner with a production date of 11/96. Is this considered early build of the 97 or did the production of the 97 actually start many months earlier?

Trying to alleviate my fears on Head Gasket recall / failure on 96's and "early build 97's"

Thanks'
John

I've seen it someplace and it seems, IIRC, that it is in the July - September timeframe, but cannot recall the specifics.

Google may turn something up for you.

It does not appear to be a set start-up date, at least for the MY 2013:

Some MY 2012:
