How many miles do you go between oil changes?

Whether you use conventional or synthetic, I was just wondering how many miles you guys and gals go between oil changes and your reasons WHY. Thanks for being in my informal survey!

I use Castrol Syntec 5W-30.
It gets changed under 3000 miles. You can never have oil that is too clean!
I get Envirolube to do it for me, I like hearing their praise over my truck.

Castrol here to. dealer has something with Castrol that if you change your oil every 4 months or 4K miles Castrol will warrant your engine agains't any lubrication failure for 100K miles. if you use the Castrol synthetic they will cover you for 300K miles. 100K is good enough for me.

5K with Mobil 1 5-30 synthetic. Always Toyota filters. The "increased" interval over conventional oil pays for itself, and you get the protection of synthetic all in one.

I would go to Amsoil if it was easier to buy.

VALVOLINE 10-30 dino and go 5K.

This last oil change I went a little to far and went 6K. Not good I know, just didn't have time. Trips in and out that accumulated miles so quickly every week.

I think 3K is just too close in between so I opt for 5K.

Mobile 1 syn with Puralator PureOne filter and I'm going about 6000k before a change.

If I was using dino oil I wouldn't go more than 3500.

You might consider paying the $20 for a year and trying them, I was skeptical at first but I did it now when i order it gets here in 2-3 days.

I use Castrol 10w-30 in everything I have ever owned. I change my oil depending on what shape its in. Usually it starts looking bad around 2500 miles. Yes, I know where the dipstck is :bounce2:

Amsoil - Once a year - 15,000 to 20,000 between oil changes - could probably go another 20K with just the filter changes before a complete drain. Change the SDF-15 filter at 6 months and the BE-100 yearly.

I was looking at used Lexus LX470's when I bought my 4th generation 4runner. I thought it was interesting when I was looking at a 2 owner LX470 that had 63K miles on it. The 2nd owner bought it from a Lexus Dealer at 40K miles and it was one of the "Certified" Lexus used cars. These are cars that Lexus goes through and says they are the best of the best and puts a 3 year 100K mile warranty on them. When I was going over the dealer service printout I noticed that the first owner had the oil changed at 1K miles and then again at 7K miles but the next change was at 16K miles and the next was at 25K miles and the next was at 35K miles. So this "Certified" by Lexus vehicle had not been serviced even close to their recommended 5K mile oil change interval and they went ahead and certified it. I'm like most of you I will alway do better then what Toyota recommends, it only costs a couple of extra oil and filter changes in a 100K mile period of time.

Standard Valvoline dino oil every 2500 miles in the 4Runner and every 100 hours of runtime (or at least once a year) in the truck.

I can't imagine running my oil well over 10k;even if the oil is still lubricating your oil still has alot of crap floating in it plus when the engine goes through cold and heat cycles and sitting for a period of time you build up corrosive contaminates in the oil and going a whole yearwith that stuff in my engine is unsettling to me especially if you push your engine hard. I guess I could see if my grandma was drving my truck for a whole year then maybe I could go for 10k miles.

That's why you need to run a by-pass filter working in conjunction with your full flow oil filter to take out the containments over 1 micron, water etc.. With the two large filters working, your oil stays fairly clean and you also increase your total oil capacity by about a third.

Yeah, that's sounds like a good idea. I've thought about a filter relocation kit and using bigger filters.

I notice no one has mentioned that they run their Amsoil synthetic over their own recommended intervals. The 5W-30 high-performance 100% synthetic that I just bought says "provides exceptional protection over extended drain intervals of up to 25,000 miles or one year...replace Amsoil oil filter at 12,500 miles or six-month intervals..." I have read on here where some have, I was just surprised that no one has claimed that on this poll with all the Amsoil claimers on Yotatech. I just bought myself the Amsoil oil & filter and planned on following their recommended intervals. Anyone have reasons for or against?

Your Toyota warranty will not be valid if you have a failure that they can claim is due to you not using the correct rated oil and changing within the Toyota recommended interval. You would need receipts that show you had the recommended work done to cover you for the warranty. I know that you can fight this, but I just can't see going through the possible crap. These engines will run longer than you would want to own the truck by just using the Toyota filter and the recommended dino oil and changing it at the recommended interval. I know that a lot of guys have fun using bypass filters and extended drain intervals with oil analysis and if that is your thing that's great. But don't just do the extended drain interval without the testing and regular filter changes or you might be buying a new engine on your own nickle. JMO

I have always used valvoline motor oil and gone 5,000 miles between
changes. If you live in a city and do a lot of short drives , you should change
your oil every 3,000 miles. But if you drive longer distances to work every
day like I do, 70 miles a day, you can get away with changing your oil every
5,000 miles or so.

I run the Series 2000, Amsoil 0W30 with an Amsoil filter and change both the oil and the filter in the spring and the fall. That comes out to around 10,000 miles per change. Every time I have had the oil analyzed, it has come back as suitable for continued use, but since the truck sees some severe duty use, I don't mind changing it twice a year instead of once.
