Man, I don't know how you can stand a 3VZ-E, 35's, and 4.30's, MudHippy. I agree with Scoob because I think 4.30s and 35s would make me want to stab myself. I'd be willing to bet if someone secretly changed your gears to 5.29s you'd be so excited you'd never think of going back. Elevation makes a huge difference too, every 1K ft. up you go, you loose ~5% of your HP. So 8K ft compared to 4K ft. would be about another 20% power loss (on top of the 20% or so power loss from going from sea level to 4K ft.).

3VZ-E(tuned), manual tranny, 35's, 4.30's = 22-23 MPG
Hate to say it(AGAIN!), but the chart's pretty accurate IMO. It says with 4.27 and 35s I should still be in the yellow(good fuel economy). And just below the blue(DD), which would be 4.56s or 4.88s. I couldn't agree more. I've always said you guys tend to err on the lower than necessary side as far as gearing for these trucks. I can honestly tell you that I'm perfectly happy with the setup I have at the moment. Like I've said on many occasions. If I feel the need for more torque offroad then I use 4Low. If I need to pass your slow ass on the highway I drop a gear and punch it. Works every time.

Tuning skills. You've either got 'em, or you don't. I've tried EVERY trick in the book. Guess what? They worked! Imagine that....
That's a gear calculator. They're a dime a dozen. What do they tell you about MPGs?

Because it's comparing apples to oranges. If you want to know your rpms at a given speed with a given size tire in a given gear with a given final drive ratio, use a gear calculator. If you want to know what the fuel efficiency is going to be with a certain size tire and a certain final drive ratio, use one of the many charts provided above.
I've seen that chart before but it is NOT valid for our trucks. If you look at the original source for the chart it states it assumes a final drive ratio of 1:1. Toyota transmissions have over drives, the 5 speed is 1:1 in 4th gear and the auto is 1:1 in 3rd gear.

Difference is, without enough power it doesn't matter if you are running high gears to get better mpg's because you'll have to floor it everywhere. Obviously there is a point where the gearing is too high to still be efficient. I'm not saying I know exactly where that point is, but I have a feeling that 35's and 4.30's are not a good combination.

That chart is only accurate for our Toyota's if you are in 4th gear (for a 5 speed) or 3rd gear (for an auto).

since "willthisifsgohigher" decides to be childish i guess i'll spoon feed him and give him a STRAIGHT answer.
YES gears will help you with your 35x15.50s.....5.29's are going to help you ALOT more than 4.88's...the difference in 4.56's and 4.88's is like 100rpms or something
