Detailing- What do you get for $200 or so?

I have a 2000 4Runner Limited and would like to get a high quality detail job done. I have always done my own detailing and know what is involved. It want to have it clayed or gone over carefully w/ polishing compound, a couple coats of wax or polymer finish, carpets shampooed, etc.

So the question is how much would this cost in your area? Everything is pretty pricey here in Jackson and need something to compare.

I bugs me to have someone else do the work, but I just don't have time. I'm working on a project for the next few months that is paying me a stupid amount of money, but takes 50-60 hours a week. I really don't want waste any time off detailing the truck when I could be out floating the Snake River, drinking beer and fly fishing. Summers are short here.

How much would you pay for a full on detailing? Or if you were going to do the job yourself how much would you charge for the type of detail you would do on your own vehicle?

I live in the Bay Area so everything, from car detailing down to tooth paste is comparatively expensive, I think a full service detail runs between $160 and $240+. Mechanics are $94/hour and gas is about $3.50 + or minus.

i have always been hesitant about taking my ride to places to wash, wax, vacuum, clean it up, whatever. actually i am hesitant about having anyone touch my truck. not that my truck is that nice, (its 15 years old, i mean come on) but ive just had problems in the past with having places doing said work, and have it not being done right, or not done at all.
i can see how you dont have time for dumb stuff like getting your ride clean, but like i always say, you get what you pay for.. but most times you dont. if its worth doing, its worth doing right the first time, so do it yourself so you know its done right the first time!

In college i helped run a detail shop. For about 150 you should be able to get it waxed, undercarriage cleaned, motor detailed, carpets and interior shampooed and some nice paper floor mats

If you're curious about detail services and prices, here's a listing from a local NoVA detail shop. 4Runners are considered "Mid Size:"

you should be able to get the whole thing done.. I used to work for a buddy of mine who has a mobile detail service... he is a perfectionist and does pretty much all high end stuff. We recently clayed, buffed, polished, and waxed my truck... took about 6 hours but it was well worth it.. but 200 should get the job done....

Thanks for the input.

Roadrunner, that is what I'm looking for a list of service and price. My job is quality control of final touch up work in trophy homes. If I do this, the inspection at completion before payment will be brutal.

Dawgone you, Robcog, you sound like my father, and he's not often wrong. On the other hand, you're just the kind of guy I want to do the work. And you're not very far away.

So here is a deal I'll offer you right here in front of the whole board.

I will pay you $200.00 USD to come up here (4-5 hr drive from SLC) and detail my 4Runner as you would your own. I'll pay for any products used in the process. I have a 9" buffer if you need it.

Come up on Friday, detail on Saturday,go home on Sunday. I will put you up in a 2 bedroom condo at the Golf & Tennis Club Friday & Saturday nights free of charge. Bring you wife or SO. There is a 2 person jacuzzi & a sauna in the condo. My company rents said condo for visiting craftsmen.
I have authority to make the offer.

I'll even supply your beverage of choice.

How about it Robcog?

Scott
