K&N filters are good for keeping rocks and small rodents out your engine. not really good for much else.

i've had pretty good luck with wix air filters on my '91, though it looks like the PO either used a crummy filter or didn't change it often, as the intake hose has a dusty residue inside of it.

i'm considering buying an amsoil foam filter. think of it this way, look at what type of filter is going to be on a diamond blade dry cut saw -- odds are it's an oiled foam filter. the foam filters well, and the oil traps the dust particles.

I noticed with K&N that the inside on my itake hose has dust on in it. I do a lot of dusty road driving.

I havent had the truwflow on long enough to really tell.. .but already I think the oil isnt as dark as quick....

I love my True Flow. Still trying to get one for my car. (they don't make an APPL yet)...

I don't fear the filtration quality of this filter at all and I am very Anal when it comes to my Runner. I do however worry about that POS K&N in my Grand Prix.
Old post, but the truth still speaks. This is one of the best air filters for 96-02 3.4L 4Runners.

I also have them for 4th gens on the site as well.

For what its worth, I've been chasing a P0171 code for better than 6 months, changing everything listed in the FSM.

Turns out it was the oil-bath filter causing the problem. Changed to an OEM style filter, check engine light went out, problem solved.
