1ZZ-FE Q's
alright, Not gonna lie I really dont feel like signing up to another forum, so im not going to sign up to some corolla car forum just so I can be a 1 post wonder. Here's the deal, I have a friend with an 01 Corolla, 100k, As we were riding she was talking down cause of the fading paint and the couple empty cans of redbull on the floor ...Anyway, She mentioned how it needed the 100k service, and seeing how her birthday is coming up, I figured I might save her the bend over at a dealership and do a few things for her. Incase you didnt know, the 1zzfe is a 1.8L chain driven motor. So heres what im thinking. Oil-Oil filter. Air filter. Plug and Plug wires. Coolant flush. Re-Tourqe the head. PCV Valve. And do a filter and obviously tranny fluid change while im at it. Question # 1: My dads always had the heads on his engines re-tourqed every 50 or so thousand miles...from our 20y/o 22re to his 10 year old 3rz. Never had any problems, Im confident I can pull a valve cover and re tourqe the head bolts, is that really all that there is to that ? As far as tranny fluid and filter, is this as straight foward as I believe, As I've never done that sorta thing because I like 5speeds ...HAH, I was also thinking of throwing in a tachometer while im at it, because it would be funny. Any suggestions or anything that would help would be appreciated. Thanks guys !!

i'd go to the stealer and ask what the recomended services are for the 100,000mile mark. I'd also chech what the previous major service markers were and see what needed to be done. Most common service intervals are 30,000 60,000 90,000. Then go from there. chances are you won't need to retorque the heads.

Hmm, I found a place on line that lists 75k services, but after that nothing... SORTA for not savin em...Apparently the TC on these things last 200k +...Im not aboot to dive in and do that, espicially on a friends car..hah. Umm, See thats the thing, I guess my dad always did the retourqe the head thing as a just incase..i mean, I know thats proper after initial break in of a new engine or rebuilt or even just after doing a HG job...But still im contemplating that one...

I'd just replace the whole engine. The bottom end is probably almost toast. Our Corolla bottom end went out at 130K. We swapped in an engine with 50K (!!!!!) and its on its way out as well. What the hell Toyota.

There was a TSB a few years ago...they made a longer dipstick and added about a half litre of oil during the oil changes. Thats a lot cheaper than replacing the bottom end!
