What is "add .4 liters of displacement? increase gas mileage
I found this post below and I dont understand it. I did not want to highjack the post. So I thought I would create another.
i am getting 14-17 mpg with my 3.0 auto with 265/75R16s and 4.56 gears.
add .4 liters of displacement if you want better gas milage.. i get upwards of 20 mpg with 35s
I have a 94 V6 4X4 with 119K miles. I was researching how to increase my mileage. During my research, I stumbled across Tofers's post.
Can you please elaborate for me so I know how to research what add .4 liters of displacement is? I want to increase my all stock truck's mileage.
Many thanks.

the only way of adding displacement to a motor is to bore it out when doing a rebuild. Some say head gasket shims add displacement too. Not sure if I believe that part though. Some times a port and polish of a cyl head can add some too, but not that much.
But something tells me this guy is talking about a 3.0 to 3.4 engine swap.

Xtreme has it right. Drop the 3.0 and swap in a 3.4.
His big runner has that swap and has decent mileage for how ungodly huge it is.

whoever said add .4 liters of displacement was being a smartass in the post. he was implying that you do a 3.4 liter engine swap. (1995.5 and newer tacoma v6,
its becasue our 3.0's have a bad reputation.)

However if you pay a machine shop enough you might be able to get 3.4L outta that 3.0L not too sure if you get to the next block after leaving the garage though. lol

Thanks for the explanation everyone.
I only have 119K miles on my original engine. If I did a swap, it would be over my head. I dont have anyone to help me, although, I have the money to do the swap.
thank again. I like learning something new.
