ok, so im debating doing a 2" body lift but want to go the el cheepo route-

nhl hockey pucks
grade 8 bolts from ace hardware
what else do i need for the truck to drive like stock? and where can i get it
i want this project to cost an additional <$30

EDIT: also i have an IFS skid plate that bolts from my suspension to my front bumper- with a body lift will i have to extend this? would regular sheet metal do the job?

you need to extend the steering. drop brackets for the rad so you can put the shroud back on. also need brackets to relocate the front bumper

will the 2 inch lift allow me to fit 33x10.5 comfortably and allow good flex for OR?

Just to clarify he means the fan shroud on the radiator. You need to drop the radiator 2 inches to match the fan hieght again.

And the front buper doesnt HAVE to be lifted 2 inches but it eould look better without the gap between it and the grille.

If it were my truck I would just buy a kit. It will be cheaper in the long run because it will come with all the brackets you need. If you dont have the money for the kit now, wait till you do.

4crawler.com is the king of the body lifts. Read up on his website. Mr Roger Brown is a legend in the Toyota community.

Please don't try the hockey pucks, you would not have to look too hard to find people who have done so and regretted it.

The actual parts are like $100-150 depending on the materials selected. The time involved is substantial. Better to spend a small bit more to begin with.

just my opinion-I have not yet body lifted.

im glad you said the last part- gives the opinion some credit (honestly, dont mean to sound sarcastic)

i guess when the time comes ill just get a body lift for <200.... what do you mean the time is substantial? i understand bolts rust (i have the scars to prove it lol) but if this is a 7 day, 8 hours a day, thing i may have to rethink it

I dunno man, if you don't wanna take the truck in mud because it's in too good a shape to mess up, I wouldn't put a hockey puck lift on it. Like the people posting above have said, 4crawler lifts are quality stuff and not all that expensive.

Oh, and timewise, it shouldn't take more than a day...

Roughly 4 hour install on a 3rd gen Runner is what I have been quoted. You assume correctly that the existing bolts are easily removed and so on-which as you know does not always go according to plan.

Summit Has 3" BL for 89-95 Yotas complete with everything you need.(brackets, extentions, etc...) for $$109.00 Check it out. I went with the Performance Accessories myself but a friend of mine got the summit and its the same thing.

It took me a 10 hours to do mine. Some stuff on a 2nd Gen with my 2" BL I ran into were, the clutch hardline was too short. Had to move the bracket and drill a new hole to mount it. The battery cables were too short. Had to cut them out of the factory loom and reroute them. A few of the Body mounts were a major PIA to get apart. The front bumper brackets that came in my performance accessories kit were junk and had to be modded. The gas hoses came tight and needed tinkering with to make work. You have to tear the entire center console out to remove the shifter to weld in the extension. Factor in weld and grinding time. I had a pushbar and had to fabricate some brackets for that. It can turn into a pretty big little project. For $100 give or take it's not worth trying to Ghetto Fab something yourself. This is what happened to the last buddy of mine that tried that.

or what happens every time you lift a pre-94?

i mean, i know my way around cars and have the ability to do ALMOST anything i put my mind to- but i have enough projects as is for start something thatll be more then a day or two

No sorry my pic didn't take the first time for some reason. That list is what I ran into..nothing major just lots of little things that were time consuming. Here's what happens when you piece together a body lift and forget to put washers on the bolt heads.
