help a guy out! engine swap questions
Im in the process of getting a new engine for my 95 taco, And i need to know what the best upgrade would be? I want to get the most power i can, so i can hit any trail and tow with ease. any help and info would be great. Would a 5vze or 3vze be best? or could a 7mge series fit? I just want to get the best i can.

I cant believe how many people hate the 3vze. but, I would go with the 5vze also. your truck can only tow as much as its rating, just because you put a bigger motor in it doesn;t mean you can safely tow more weight. the 7m would not really be worth it other then the cool factor. if you want that much work, go 1uz.. yea... that makes me smile..

Seriously. I mean, I see why they hate it. But, I find the good in it. It's a Toyota, it gets me where I need to go, and it keeps me away from tickets. Plus there's no need for speed in the Runner. I enjoy a long ride in it.

well assuming it truly is a tacoma.. then it either came with a 2rz, 3rz, or 5vz. If it came with the 2rz or 2.4 4cy upgrade to the 3rz 2.7 4cyl. That swap would be really easy since you're staying 4 cylinder. If it came with the 5vz 3.4 v6 replace that with another 5vz. Its a very solid motor and has plenty of aftermarket support.

you're still not giving us much info here toyw. Is this gonna be a dedicated trail rig? or a daily driver? How are your fabrication/welding skills? how are you with tools? how big of tires are you gonna run? How hard do you want this to be? will you need to worry about emissions or getting barred? what motor do you have now? auto or 5spd?

Vital22re: its a 95 toy taco, v6 4x4, auto. i have 31" tires, might upgrade to 33" for that extra ground clearance. i want it to be a fun truck, but it will also be my drive to work truck. i am able to weld, fab, and im not worthless with tools, but i would rather have someone who knows more than me do it. I dont want it to be super hard, cause i dont want to get that intense with it, but i want it to kick some butt, if you know what i mean

thanks alot. that was my original plan to stay with the 3.4, and then supercharge it, but i wanted to see what others had done, or what they suggested. But thanks for the help.

A few more questions? 1. Does anyone know of any really good toyota shops in NC, Fayetteville erea? 2. Will the 5vzfe fit ok, in 95 pickup DLX? What other modifications can you do to increase power?

All of the reasons you've stated what you want out of the truck are counter productive to the reason you'd buy a Toyota in the 1st place...
When you add power to an engine, you decrease it's life expectancy... And increase it's fuel consumption. More power never means better MPG. Stock, left alone motors are always the best...
And you want to tow, (little trucks don't make good tow trucks) and you can't wheel without POWA!!!
So my vote would be buy a Chevy. Get an old 85ish with the solid axle and it'll wheel, have power, drink gas and tow whatever you can put behind it.
The Tacoma's front end ALONE isn't the best choice for anything you've stated you want...
