hey so just a few questions.
i'd like to make my 4runner a little better when offroadin and stuff.
what type of shocks/suspension is best for a '99 sr5 4runner?
and i bought this car used and i dont really like the wheels anyone know where i can buy some toyota factory wheels?
and what are some good things to change on a stock 4runner when offroading?

Where are you at? What kind of 'wheeling are you thinking about?

Generally, IMHO, lift does the least for increasing offroad capability on IFS rigs. Gearing, lockers, even armor will get you further down the trail than lift will.

Factory wheels are for sale all the time on Craigslist.

i dont have the lockers, where can i get them?

i go offroading in the foothills usually.. at times its pretty muddy, and theres a lot of steep hills that i'd like to be able to try, so i want something to make it pretty versatile and can still climb very well. and i want it to be powerful, without killing mpg. i was thinking about a k&n cold air intake?

Sliders, bumpers, gears and lockers, slight lift, 33's and you'll be good to go

Intake and exhaust (other than headers) does very little to improve the performance of our trucks.

Money is better spent on gears which will provide more torque to the ground.

Seconded! I would look into the deckplate mod if you are looking to open up the airflow a little bit. Way cheaper than a K&N, and truth be told I doubt you will feel the 3 hp adding that intake will add.

If you want to add offroad capability to your rig add a locker. You can usually find a factory e-locker for sale for your model on ebay, craigslist, or the forums if you keep looking long enough, or you can always add an aftermarket selectable like an ARB. Expensive compared to other mods, but a rear locker will turn your truck into a completely different monster.

I would make sure you have a solid set of offroad tires and a rear locker before I would worry about huge lifts and tires. If your stock suspension is sagging though (like mine) you might want to look into a System 7 Sonoran Steel lift or a set of OME shocks and springs. However, if your stock suspension is fine, think about adding a rear locker first before anything.
