1986 Toyota
Hi all,
I am a newbie to having a Toyota. I found a original owner 1986 standard cab short box with 59,000 miles on it. The previous owner wanted a bare bones model to be able to get back to work. It didnt have a stereo, lighter, slider window etc and even has the original white steel wheels. The truck runs like a sewing machine. I would however like to have a little extra power from that 22R. I have been told that a header will help. Can anyone else help with some other ideas? I would also like to put power steering on it and could use some help with this as well. Thanks in advance. I am looking forward to learning as I go.

Welcome to yotatech!
Nice find! pictures?
And I had the same problem when I got 35s. I heard it would be cheaper to just re gear instead of putting a lot of money into the engine.

Welcome to YT. jeremys87yota is right, regear is a great options. Some power upgrades could be rebuild or swap carb to a weber. Could do a gasket match to the stock exhaust manifold. Dont want to try to cram to much, the 22R are almost max that they can get with out some extreme stuff but reliablility may go down. Maybe a cam shaft and time chain upgrade
