TSBs and why Toyota Stinks
I'm a newbie here, so bear with me. Here are my dealings with Toyota over the last year:
First off:
2004 Sr5 4runner bought from a Northern California dealer (which i shall not mention)
March 2006: Complained about Sulfer Smell in my vehicle. It comes and goes. Brought it into the dealer and left it there. They couldn't replicate the problem and they said to come back.
April 2006: Came back. They still couldn't find it after several test drives. I finally went on a test drive with them and it didn't occur.
I left and just ignored them. The problem continued for the next few months.
July 2006: Complained more about it. I left the car with them and the DSPM said that he didn't smell any issue.
August 2006: Complained to Toyota about this issue and they said, it was up to the Dealer to take a look at since the DSPM said there was no smell, he is the law of the land. Can't do anything.
Next few months: Complained to Toyota and dealer several times.
December 2006: Found TSB EG015-04 about the fix.
Late December 2006: Told dealer about bulletin. They told me that since the DSPM said everything was good, they are the law of the land and they can't fix it.
The problem I have is I can't necessarily duplicate the problem when the DSPM is there.
Here are my questions:
1) Will Toyota fix TSBs even though my warranty is over as of mid-2006?
2) Even if I go to another dealer? Will they know that the dumb dumb DSPM looked at my vehicle because of the VIN? I can't necessarily duplicate the smell while they are there.
3) Why is Toyota and the DSPMs so dumb?
Sorry, I'm just frustrated with the process. Welcoming any suggestions. Toyota did say i can go thru an arbitration process, but this is really for lemon cars. They said, the DSPM said everything was ok and the dealer says, they need to listen to the DSPM. This is so dumb and so are they.

go to another dealer.there is a tsb for a differnt cat convertor for some vehicles experiencing excess sulphur odor.it is designed to help(may not completely take care of).i have replaced quite a few at the dealer i work at & none have come back with the same complaint.did you talk about the tsb with the dealer?did you buy the rig from the dealer where you're trying to get it repaired at?if so talk with the general manager-if not then you are likely not to get much help anyway.here is the way i work TSBs.cust comes in with complaint & i can't duplicate but there is a TSB we will go ahead & perform the TSB & explain to cust may or may not help problem but it is a starting point.2)cust comes in with TSB in hand is experiencing problem & i can duplicate we perform TSB.3)cust comes in with TSB & no symptoms or intermittent & just wants TSB done because there is one then we may have to discuss that a bit.by the way cat. warranty here is 8yrs or 80,000 miles.not sure about Cali. You folks seem to have your own set of rules there.anyway goodluck with it

You didn't mention if you had a V6 or a V8, but there are separate ones:
V6: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/attach...=&postid=30258
V8: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/attach...=&postid=31585
Yes, your truck is covered for 8yrs/80k for this fix so even if your standard warrant is over they will still have to fix this.
Here is a huge thread on t4r.org: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showth...b&pagenumber=1
I had mine done in 2004. While the smell is not 100% gone, it is 300% not as stinky as it was before the TSB was done.

I, like LittleRunner, work at a Toyota store, one of the biggest. Our service Department has one of the highest CSI's in the country. You would have been fixed and back on the road by now, with the repairs.
I don't have any real problem with the smell too much on my034runner, but because there's a TSB on it, I'm getting the new Cat.
I'm also getting the sunroof TSB taken care of.
Go to another Toyota store, and see a professional. If there's a TSB, you don't really have to prove anything, I think. It needs to be done.
Just my 2 cents!!!
