Gearing

I have an 05 tacoma v6 and i am currently running a total chaos long travel and 35 in tires. Right now i have 4.88 gears in the rear. Was thinking of swapping to 5.29s for more get up. would 5.29s be ok for running extended amount of time at freeway speeds (70+).

why wouldnt they?

granted that the pinion bearing will see more wear becouse it is spinning faster. but not enough to cause issues.

if properly setup they will have no problem handling freeway speeds.

thats what i was thinking, but i was told that for being such a steep gear the would but forcing themselves apart more and would heat up to much at freeway speeds

i've got 5.29's in my 4runner with 33's and churn 3200rpm at 70mph....

most people are concerned with engine speed and not the speed of the differential.

I run an 160 mile trip every few weeks and have done 8hrs plus trips with 5.29's.
