Fink's Tacoma!
My Tacoma finally arrived!! It got here yesterday morning and I picked it up yesterday afternoon!!
I am in love! This thing is amazing!! I love it!!
No mods yet, waiting on my WeatherTech liners to get here on Friday and that will be the first "mod". Window tint may come next, I'm thinking about getting a custom-fit sun shade from Cabela's, gotta protect that dash!!!

Factory Installed:
-TRD Sport package
-V6 Tow Package (6500lb)
-Security System
Interior:
-WeatherTech FloorLiners (grey)
-Maglite behind rear seat
-First aid kit
Future Mods:

Haha...I've been driving like a grandma because of the break-in period.
Highest I've gotten it on the tach is like 2.5k maybe.
That was a question I had...how easy does everybody take it during break-in? I'm the kind of person that is extremely cautious and would rather take it way TOO easy than risk doing damage.
I've heard it's almost better to give it some good gas every now and then to help seat everything properly but that just kind of scares me. I'm a wuss.
Does anybody have any break-in tips?

The reason I say this is stepdads 02Runner made it to 120K before he took it in for the first tune up and timing belt.
Even then it did not feel like it needed it at all.
needless to say i think its all due to the fact that he went through the break in period and then switched everything over to synthetic.

EDIT: Needles to say this does not mean you should take your truck 120K before doing a tune up.
When 90K came on stepdads Runner, we weren't able to do anything since the truck had been taken from us....

Modern cars don't need an elaborate break in. The last two new cars I've had just say don't drive at a constant speed for the first while. So don't use the cruise and you are good to go.

I think I've heard that changing the oil at 1,000 miles is recommended. Is this true? Would it be completely stupid for me to get it changed at 500 and then again at 1,000? I'd rather be OCD about it and have it last even longer than not.

I usually just have my dealership do mine...especially now. My local dealer, and I'm sure tons of other ones, are doing the Lifetime Powertrain Warranty as long as you do all of your service through that dealership.
Plus with the discount that I get, it's not that bad at all.
I thought they stocked Mobil 1 Synthetic?

Fink don't stress too much over the break in. This is a huge debated issue. Based on my personal experience an engine will run the way it was broke in. If you baby the crap out of it it'll likely not have the power of one that was ran a little harder. A true break in comes in the first few minutes an engine was ran when the the rings seat anyways. They are ran at the factory and I'm guessing yours had at least a few miles on it when you got it. I rebuild my motocross bike 3-4 times a season and all I do after that is let it warm up and then go racing. Granted it's a simpler engine but the same basic principles apply. Don't get on the brakes hard for a while and after a 100 miles I'd drive it like you stole it. I changed my oil the first time at 900 miles but that was because the next day I drove it 1500 back to California. I changed it again at 2500 and then 3000 intervals since. I'm at 9500 miles on mine now.

Okay. Maybe I'll start driving it a little bit more like I normally would.
Drive it like I stole it after 100 miles? That scares me, lol. What is the reason behind that? Just for my information...I'm new to the new car thing.

I trade cars quite often and I recomend gradually taking it higher (RPM wise) as you get more miles on it. Once you hit the break in limit take it up to high RPM a 2 or 3 times.

Did a google search on Engine Break in procedures. Found lots of stuff but here's some of the more interesting ones. They all talk about getting the revs up to some extent to help the rings seal. As far as driving it like you stole it thats an exaggeration but there's no need to keep the tach under 2 grand.

I went up to the dealer to pick something up and I talked to all the guys I know up there. They basically said that as long as I don't stay at a constant speed for a long period of time (i.e., road trip) then I should be fine.
They said hard stops are not advised but in no means will a hard stop hurt anything, it just may not be the best thing for it until it gets more miles on it.
Today I got the tach up a little bit more but I think I'll stick with 3k as my barrier for the next 100 miles or so, after that I'll raise it up some. I think gradual is a good idea.

Only Toyota touches my rig.
They use Castrol SynTech where I go.

Is Castrol SynTech better than Mobil 1? I've been a die hard Mobil 1 fan for years...but I guess if that's not what they've been using then I'm not, hahaha.

I just got back from driving it and I'm giving it a little bit more gas now, I got it up to 3k almost!! Haha.
The engine seems a little noiser than I was expecting, I guess it's just me not being used to it...that was also with the A/C on.
It sure is a purty truck!
I got a brand new 3D LED Maglite for behind the rear seat and I cleaned up my jumper cables and put those back there too.
Now I just have to find a first aid kit and I'm good to go.
