What happened to making cars out of metal, not plastic? All the ground effect looks like crap, the stripped version looks a whole lot better.
On a side note, saw a Nissan Titan yesterday up close and personal. It looked pretty sweet for a daily driver, would probably consider it if I was looking for a new truck.

The grille looks almost like the grille on Dodge trucks. They started out making that new style grille in the early 90's that moves the lights down and back from the center hood. The Dodge must have the ugliest front end of any truck ever. The newest version is even uglier than the older ones. I hope Toyota doesn't follow this style because Ford has the same type of grille/hood as Dodge; just not as ugly. The grilles on the first Tacomas (95-97) seemed to look the best to me.
This is also true on the 4-Runners. The front ends have gone downhill over the years. I think the front end of mine looks great but my wifes 99 is awful. Looks like a snout on the front. I may put on a bull bar or an earlier 3rd gen bumper. That snout really kills the approach angle.

Hey thanks guys. It's just a guess. I forgot to do the rear fender-I think the sweep will be more subtle and die off before it hits the cab.
Actually, I feel like the Tacoma is pretty conservative. They kept it looking very "tacoma-like" which is a good thing. Remember it's a bigger truck so the "light" look of the current Taco will not be there.
I bet they go with a black, chrome and body color grilles for the various styles.
Anyway, I like the design alot!

Nice chops, youse guys. Have you noticed that the wheelbase on the '05 Taco is within an inch of the current Tundra, and overall length is about a foot more than Land Cruiser? I'll have to rearrange the garage!
Wheelbase: 127.4
Overall Length: 207
Overall Width: 71.8
Overall Height: 63.8

Yeah, it's the market.
If Toyota kept the size the same, they would get slaughtered in sales.
Everyone else is upsizing their compact trucks. There are no "compact" PU's anymore-or won't be in a few months.
But, that new Taco is nice and I know the size is bigger but still very handy.
Also the reason it is so close in size to the Tundra is because in 06 the new full-size Tundra is coming (late '05, I assume). So some product overlap is ok since the Tundra DoubleCab is bigger in all dimensions compared to a Tundra.

i absolutely love the looks of this truck...you know, toyota just over took ford for second place money sales..they say in a few years they hope to be in front of gm..
that might be the case, but its working like mad. they say they want to break into the truck market, and this could really appeal to some domestic guys..if they just put a v8 in there, they got it made.. they are going nowhere but up. ~kyle
GO TOYOTA!
I think toyota is really starting to loose some of it's good design sense..
