I miss the "blockiness" of vehicles. My old Ford Ranger looked like a brick on wheels. There wasn't a smoothe edge on it. Now everyting looks like a damned bubble on wheels.

I think this will be like the 4th gen runners. Don't care for it too much now but it'll probably grow on me.

I hope the rest of the world likes it though... might make getting an 04 Tacoma easier and cheaper

Darx,
Did you know that was the biggest complaint when the current Taco was introduced? That and that the front end was hideous.

I think the current Taco looks great now.

I think Toyota hit money on the new Taco. The interior is going to win over alot of people and the quality of the exterior fit&finish is better than any midsize pu I've seen yet.

Funny, the first thing I thought of when I saw those pics was oh, that thing looks horrible, I hope Peter gets an older one...

The interior looked good, I guess I'll keep my fingers crossed that the 4x4 exterior will look better.

I'm interested to see the non-go fast version of the Tacoma. This looks very much to me like the craziness mostly comes from the ground effect and big-@$$ fogs on the front. It'll be OK I think, as long as you can get the important stuff w/o the flash.

I watched the official unveil at toyota.com: they say they benchmarked the X-runner (hell, why not just call the s-runner again, what is this one AWD?!?!?!) against the 350Z and I SWEAR they said it outperformed the 350 in handling...

I wonder if they're going to do like Chevy and offer the sport suspension with the DoubleCab.

The front end is cool. The "bubbles" need to go away. I think the 4x4 version will look alot better

3rd door on the ext cab? oh, no my friend - it'll four doors. They can't let EVERYBODY beat them to that again.

Now they just have start allowing more flexibility with the option packages...and let people make those little changes like A MANUAL ON A PRE_RUNNER!!!!

Well, call it a leap of faith, but I'm now #1 in line for an '05 X-Runner locally. Colors, pricing and availability date are TBD. I've posted before that my biggest motivation is resale value, and after conversations with my dealership new and used vehicle managers today, ordered up. I learned that the current S-Runner resale is the best of any Taco in my region, including (surprisingly) any 4X4 model, while supply is intentionally held low. I think residual should still be strong when I resell in Spring '05. They said it's called X-Runner because of the special frame with additional X-bracing for this model only.

Can someone provide a link to some other, more Taco specific boards? I'm interested in what their impressions are about this and the other Tacos as they're revealed. Thanks in advance...

www.customtacos.com

www.ttora.org (or maybe that's .com)

I wonder if that X-bracing deal is something that could be bolted on. Be good sales for TRD. Be cool to load all the performance mods into a complete base-looking model.

I'm still waiting for a pic (*hint-hint*) of a photo-shopped 4x4 version with a snorkel and bull bar on it..

Looks like a Dodge and 4th Gen Runner had a pup. I think Toyota lost it when they came out with the 4th gen Runners. I still prefer the more aggressive looks of the 3rd gens...I'm sure we'll all get use to it though.

Very sweet, a truck that handles as well as a 350Z, few things run through my head when reading about this X-Runner, 18 inch wheels for my 4Runner wonder what else can be swapped off the tacoma, the V6 4Runner should have an SC in time and eventually maybe we will see some 6-speed swaps into a 4th gens and who knows maybe toyota will make X4Runners

Seems Toyota is putting more performance into their trucks then cars weird, if Toyota can make a Tacoma handle as well as a Z then their has to be a next generation supra out performing M3's

Look at the clearance it has. You'll get high-centered in anywhere with that.

I think it looks OK. Better than I thought it would. Have to wait and see what the 4x4 version looks like, and not the Fast And Furious version. Definetely better than the 4th gen 4-Runner. The interior looks great except for the gauges and center "pod". Its just like the new F-150, 4-Runner, Titan. Way too industrial/blank. Hopefully the regular version won't have that hugh arch on the sides of the bed.
Someone asked about the scoop being functional-no. The s-shaped pipe goes to the left of the engine bay, and no holes in the top of the plastic engine cover. What was wrong with looking at the intake manifolds anyway?
Did anyone notice the brake calipers are on the rear of the wheels again like 2nd gens.
