I've searched here without any luck but am certain someone has run into this already.

The owners manual says drain & fill: 2.1qts
Haynes says 2.1qts

Today, I drained my 03 V6 automatic and carefully measured what came out - 3.6qts! When I checked it before the drain, it was slightly above the full HOT mark on the dipstick but it also may have not been fully up to temp so may have gone higher.

3.0qts have brought it up to the first notch of HOT when it's properly warmed up, another .2qts would probably put it at the top mark but that means I've put in (and taken out) the exact amount prescribed for the V8 setup.

This is the first time the transmission fluid has been touched since new (other than checking it at every oil change) so what it had in it came from the factory (or the dealer "topped" it off during prep). 81K on the truck and based on what came out, it did not need the change, just trying to be preventative.

Anyone know if there has been a change to the capacities chart for the 03? Anyone else had 3.6 qts come out? BTW, the pan certainly looks a LOT bigger than 2.1qts which is why I measured it so carefully, just didn't sound right.

All i can say is if it was working fine before, and it had 3.6 quarts in it then just put 3.6 back in it. Shouldnt be a problem.
