Zuk mod questions

I all. Haven't posted in a while. Been busy with house stuff.
I want to do a Zuk mod but when I jacked up the back and measured from the leaf pack to the frame i got 12.5 inches. Zuk reccomends 12 or less for the 12 in springs. Should I go with the 14 x 100's or am I measuring wrong. If the spring sits on the u-bolt it would gife me another 1/2 in or so.

Also, are these add-a leafs?

To bring up the rear and improve the ride considering either 12 x 125 or 14 x 100 coils, remove the add-a leafs and new shocks. This is currently my daily driver. Don't do much wheeling. Some camping and towing.

I put 14 x 110 in my truck last week.. They added so much comfort to my truck, even with dead shocks; the coils did give me more lift than I anticipated (still appreciated though). my 4Runner sits back end high even with my torsion bars cranked.

WHen you measured 12.5" leaf to upper frame, where was the leaf end of the tape sitting? Place it on the lower bump stop mount (if you don't plan on making a new lower mount) and measure again to the frame. I'm sure that the lower mount sits at least 1/2" off the top leaf.

I personally don't know how 12" coils sit in place, but my 14's are still tucked in nicely with full droop.

Thanks for your replies.
I put the tape in the top leaf

In one photo i saw, the spring was sitting in top of the u-bolt. So that would put me at about 12 inches.

I just took a picture of what my lower mount looks like.. its a piece of 2.5" diameter pipe, welded to the lower bump stop mount.. The bump stop was missing on one side, and fell off in my hand while inspecting it.

That second picture is to show you approximately how much you can deduct from your top leaf to upper mount height.. about 1/2 - 3/4" if you use the lower bump stop, over 1" if you don't..

Just got my 100lbs x 14 springs in the mail today! one of my bump stops is missing too. where can i get a piece of 2.5" pipe? was thinking exhaust pipe, but that doesn't seem like it'd be strong enough......

The pipe I used I thikn is exhaust pipe, it was a random piece at my buddies shop, he's a farmer who has quite the impressive scrap steel pile..

I'm not too concerned about "Maximum strength" because it's only being used to locate the bottom of the spring.. a lot of guys are just slipping the spring over the bump stop, and I assure you my welds are stronger than the adhesive holding the rubber bump stop to the steel plate under the u-bolts.

I'll prob just buy a piece of exhaust pipe. good call on it being stronger than the rubber bump stop. I can just weld the pipe to the plate were the bump stop was.

blue_CA_yota- i see you're running DuraTracs....i'm in the market for new tires and was checking them out.....my truck is a daily driver and sees some wheeling here and there. Are they good wearing tires?

That's all I did.. Centered it by hand, put a tack on it, then fully welded it into place..

I love these tires.. they grip everything, aren't too loud, and don't do too badly in the mud once you get them spinning.. But I can't really tell you how well they're wearing, only because I have a welded rear end.. The fronts take abuse from the incredible understeer, and the rears are taking abuse from chirping around every corner..

However, I've put about 15,000 km (almost 10,000 mile) on these tires, and they still have 12/32" tread in the front and 11/32" in the rear.. I bought the rear tires (originally on the front) a month or two before the other two tires (funds ran short haha) and have rotated them.. According to Tirerack.com these tires started with 18/32" tread.. (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....ngler+DuraTrac)

most of the km's I've put on were city driving, and I don't drive my 4Runner nicely.. I'm happy with the tread wear, however I only put on 12,000km (7,000 miles) a year..

Hey LITLRED-
Nice job with the pics....I'd like to see you get the 14 x 125 coils. You do have alot of sag on your Runner. Based on what I see in the pics, I'd say you need the full 4~4.5" that the 14" coils will give you.
Definitely get rid of the add-a-leafs. Between the AAL gone and the coils you will be amazed at the ride. The shocks might need to be longer....or not.

I'm ordering the 14 in springs. Lil Red will be riding so tall, you'll have to call her Big Red.
Once I get the springs, I supose it will be obvious if I need BJ spacers and longer shocks?

BJ spacers will be a personal preferance.. Will depend on how you like the stance..
You said you plan on getting new shocks anyways, might as well look into shocks for 0-2 inches lift..

14x125 gave me a pretty good rake, but the clincher for me getting BJ spacers was how much softer the ride was in the back then it was in the front. So I got the spacers, took about an inch of the 1.5" in lift, and relaxed the torsion bars a half inch. Made the ride really nice, and still has just a slight rake.

Do a test....jack up the rear such that you have 4 more inches of wheelwell clearance.....inspect the shocks to see if they are ok. Also, look at the new side stance. I bet it barely looks high in the rear so maybe the BJ spacers won't be needed. Ok to post pics

Thanks for all your input.
Here she is jacked up 4-1/4 inches
Before

9 3/4 inches from rim to fender

After

14 in from rim to fender

Quick work there, LITLRED To me, that looks a-ok. As soon as you put a few camping things in the back it would be fairly level I think. How do the shocks looks?....got about 3 inches or more of extension left?

There's something weird about the way your camera makes your driveway look like it slopes down on the right....I see you have a block on the front of the tire to keep it from rolling forward but the driveway slope looks really steep.

Yea, I was in a bit of a rush and didn't have time to explain.
My driveway does have a pretty steep slope.
Probably should have blocked the other side. May not have ended well if I had jacked it up so the rear wheels cleared.
