windshield washer pump(s)
Anyone replace the pumps with the universal aftermarket pumps you can buy at Napa or any of the other major auto parts stores.
The pumps from Toyota are $50 for the front (bottom) and $80 from the rear (upper). The universal pumps from Napa are only $15. It looks like all you need to do is splice the wires as the new pumps don't use the exact same connection plugs as the original.
Anybody tried this?

You don't need to go to a universal type. You can get an exact fit replacement for under $20. Or you can move the rear pump to the front. It will fit. All you have to do is splice the wires to it.

I had a great experiance replacing one of mine in a 92 4Runner with the cheap model from Auto Zone. I don't think it was universal though, they had to look it up by year, engine type and everything and it fit perfect.

I tried the 13 dollar one from advance and had to return it. THe barb was too small and too short to hold the hose, so I would have had to replace the hose too. The dealer wanted 26 dollars at the time, and to wire it I would have had to cut the wiring on the truck and splice it into the wires on the generic, it wasnt worth the time and hassle.
I bought the dealer's, clipped right in.

I just put a replacement pump from KOI Auto Parts on my 95 Pickup 22re 2wd. I just had to splice the factory wires, and put the included bushing on the washer reservoir, and it works great. Fit perfectly.

I went to Napa and they only had 1 of the replacment pumps. It did not come with the rubber gromet. Then I checked with a few other local name parts stores and found 1 more, the brand was Trico and had the same number on the pump as the one from Napa but the Trico came with the gromet. So I bought a 2nd gromet that was for a PCV vavle and it worked perfectly. I did have to splice the wires but the whole job took less than an hour.
Thanks for the info guys.
