stash spots are good for keepig things out of sight, not gonna save your ass if the cop gets a warrant with a good k9.
with that said, i hate driving with "anything" in my truck that can get it taken away or torn up by anyone.

Dogs smell better
geesh.
Well my brother works for the border patrol, and he tells me all the sneaky places people try to hide drugs... and how up their cars get when the border patrol and INS get into looking for it. I think its funny though, thinking you can carve out a niche to keep things hidden because 1. either they really dont suspect someone of anything and really dont look at all; a.k.a they have no legal right to even remove your cig.tray or cup holder and can only do what is called a visual search. Meaning they really cant even open compartments like the storage bins in the back.
or .
2. they get that feeling your skeesy and well they can dismantle your entire car. Same with local law enforcement, they bring that dog around and no matter where you hide it.. it gets a whiff off it. Remember, dogs smell about 100000000 times better then we do.. well at that point, the pull out the hammer and pry bars.
Also, as smart as you may think you are, they have seen it.. heard it and found it. The mexican's try some sneaky stuff, even going so far as to pulling the gas tank.. cutting it open and literally putting a person in it. So, now the INS and border patrol puts a light and a mirror down it.

i might add though...the one time i've been stopped EVER by police was when i was at a park 10 mins past curfew goofing around with some friends in the parking lot (and teaching one how to drive stick). they asked to search my truck and since i had nothing to hide i said sure and was very friendly and they returned the favor. i had a Band of Brothers DVD set in the back seat (in the tin-can type container it comes in) and that was an item of interest to them. once he found out it was really DVDs, we struck up a convo about the series that lasted like 15 mins.
moral of the story: don't use a Band of Brothers DVD set to stash anything illegal!

Same here, never have or will mess with anything, I'm too much of a control freak. Nevertheless, yall got me thinking and now I'm going to aid and abet. What about vacuum packing? They've got those new vacuum ziploc bags, the dogs would never smell it right? Or for the large scale transporter, a tank for your "air locker" with a threaded cap for insertion of said "goods". Pull a vacuum on it and bam! What do yall think?

Why waste few precious moments of your life being detained by the police for nothing other than nonsensical profiling for a few minutes of ridiculous pride.
Moral of this story, the police cannot get inside your car without probable cause. If you say NO I do not consent to a search of my vehicle then it is up to a judge to issue (sign) a search warrant. That warrant is based on the information the officers give to the presiding judge.
Now should you have 5 crack whores in the back seat, a kilo of coke on the dashboard, 25 lbs of OG Cush in the trunk, a 6ft twisty bong between your legs and a syringe hanging off a vien on your left arm, well....

i dont do any illegal drugs but i got arrested one time for driving on a suspended licence that i dident even know was suspended (paid a speeding ticket late and they sent the notice to the wrong address) they searched my jeep wrangler that i had at the time. ripped everything apart all my luggage anything the only thing they found was what i told them they would find an unloaded .44 6 shot revolver in the back behind the seat. the only thing the cop had to say was nice gun. i did notice however that in the center console the cup holders for the back seat pull right out and there was a good size area there. but i found out about it because the cops pulled it out and never put it back, so i don't know if it would be a good place to stash something illegal but a good place to stash anything legal. so if you know anyone with a jeep wrangler theres a stash spot there.
on a side note there sure is alot of drug users on this site

Should you be in a position to consent to a search of your person or your vehicle and you are "abiding by the law", why not exercise your 4th amendment rights while you still have them and ask, Officer, what is that has peaked your interest as to what illicit contraband I may have stashed in my truck?" And if the officer says some $@#% like "well for your safety I want to make sure you aren't carrying anything" or "your ashtray has ashes in it, or your eyes are bloodshot, or what are you doing in this park at this time of night, or your truck has a lot of shiny stuff on it." You can say NO YOU CANNOT SEARCH MY TRUCK. And if the officer insists you can say, "without a care in the world" go wake a judge up and tell him to sign a search warrant based on that nonsense you just told me!

i guess i have more respect for police officers than some people do (i'm not naming anyone at all) and i can spare a few minutes to keep a good relationship with them than to start getting snippy and quoting a lawbook to them, changing the whole situation into a more hostile one

Smoke, then drive......best advice I've seen so far. Good stuff.
The best thing to do is to not get pulled over. You have to be careful when you're riding "dirty". Speed limits, turn signals, complete stop at stop signs, complete stop before turning right at a red traffic light (that one got me once).....just stuff like that. I also heard that it is more difficult for the dog if you hide it higher up and in the center of your vehicle....but if you have a dog on you, you're pretty screwed.
Another thing I've learned in this thread is that canada and northern cali sounds like nice places to live.....I know someone who got busted for simple possesion here, very small amount, but come to find out that first offense, even with no prior record of any kind is an automatic 10 days in jail. Unless you get a lawyer of course....

now for my 2 cents...When I was younger and did nothing not even smoke cigs between 17-20 I had cops search my car 5 times. I was an avid bmxer. The worst is when they put me on the curb in 38 degree weather i was in shorts and a t-shirt going to a friends house. They searched my car for about 30 min would not let me sit in thier car to get warm and made me late to the movie. They pulled me over cause my 86 honda accord looked suspisious. I have had the drug dogs pulled out once cause I denied the search didnt have time was in hurry after my last experience. As I told the cop i have nothing in my car after they came out, nada and once again made me late for an appointment. I understand they have a job to do but i only have like a speeding ticket and a seat belt ticket on my record and no criminal record .

Always be nice to cops. Look them in the eye when you are talking, and don't be condisending (did I spell that right?)... Have never had an issue when pulled over, and the last few times I have been pulled over it was 1-2am on friday night...
Never had my truck searched either, hell the only place I ever saw that being done, was at the American/canadian border.... (going into the US....)
Any honestly.. I dunno about the us, but we don't have many k9 units patroling the area around here....
I'l stick with my beer cooler bag and a good attitude.

I used to help train drug dogs on a volunteer basis, and we used almost that exact setup to train them...
Put "agent" in a baggie, put baggie in a film canister, put film canister in a ziplock, put ziplock in a full sized coffee can full of coffee. Most of the better dogs could find it, we would hide them under the seat of a car, line up 5 cars and run the dogs threw each one, often they could find the exact car and could indicate the exact spot where the can was hidden.
I don't doubt that you fooled some dogs with this method, but just so you know they now train for such a method and the dogs can still smell it.
On a side note, often times the dog can tell that you have the drugs in the car but can't find or stash. In this case I have seen what happens, you end up getting the car torn apart in the search... cops are usually worse at taking of trim than a car thief, so if you do get your car back, don't expect the trim to fit back together.
Why do people risk so much for this stuff? I don't get it, I could see if it was legal and you didn't get hassled for it, or if it would bring your dead kitten back to life or something, then maybe worth it.... but other than that, why not be high on life? It's free.

Nice topic. I like all of the remarks, some funny some not so much.
Whether it's for "illegal" purposes or not, EVERYONE needs their own little stash spot in their OWN vehicle. Good idea about stashing $ and an extra ID..."always be prepared".
I have on many occasions used the empty space inside the fuse box underneath the hood. A locking gas cap cover. The area underneath the stereo, even though to me it seemed a little obvious.
As for those of you who need to stash some "herb", just get a prescription!....if you're state allows it. Better to be safe than sorry.

A few years ago the state was trying to make it legal through and through, but that would have conflicted with the federal law....

I guess this post is off topic, but since most of the replies are talking about hiding something from "them", I'll put my 2 cents in. Aside from hiding "something" that you don't want to be found, the most important thing regarding this topic is how to deal with the situations of search and the legalities of your civil rights. Most people consent away their rights very easily and quickly through intimidation or a series of confusing questions, which authorities are trained and experienced with. Every good American needs to know and exercise their rights, for if we don't, there is no reason to be living in the land of the free. Police know the ins and outs of what is legal, but consistently operate on the knowledge that most citizens DO NOT know, and they take advantage of it all the time.
Answering an officers interrogative questions WITH QUESTIONS OF YOUR OWN, such as "am I being detained?", "can I have my license back?, "am I under arrest?" will begin to signal to the officer that you know your rights.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS and tell your friends to KNOW THEIR RIGHTS, because each day people's rights are being trampled on.
