Trouble getting into gears: Part 2

Having troubles getting into gear every now and then with a 89 4runner 22re m/t. In the previous thread it sounded like everybody diagnosed it as a clutch not fully disengaging problem based off of the issues I was having. After some tinkering, I was able to convince myself that it is not the clutch at all. What leads me to believe this is that I can get into some gears with the clutch pedal NOT pressed completely to the floor. But at the same time, I can try to go into 1st or 2nd and it won't go even with the clutch completely pressed to the floor. I am assuming that if it can go into any gear, that means the clutch is fully disengaged. And if it can't go into a gear with the clutch disengaged, that leaves it to being a transmission problem. Is this correct? If so, any recommendations? Rebuild transmission? Find a replacement? Thanks for the help.

It sounds like tranny to me; I just fixed a prob where , when it was turned off, could go into any gear, no prob. soon as i cranked the engine, no gears, no matter what.
first i tried to replace just the slave cylinder, helped a bit, but still not going into all gears. Ended up rebuilding the tranny, and replacing the whole clutch kit; pressure plate, rotor, throw out, etc. According to one of the mechs, part of the throw out bearing, had done something, or broke back, and went into the tranny and messed up synchros, or something in there.
Anyway, the whole job cost a ton. Basically two tow jobs(or maybe 3?) about 90. bucks per , plus 500 for the clutch kit, plus tranny parts/rebuild. plus slave cyl install. Came to enough money to buy another 4 rnr, if i had wanted. 1900 bucks.

Sounds like the tranny maybe........I'm no expert on this for sure.

My understanding from your post is that you did check the pedal mounting breacket. Just making sure cause mine was do the same thing and the reason mine would work at times was because the break in the bracket was catching and allowing the pedal to fully work. Just wanted to make sure.
