Strange Noise from DASH!?!?

I just got my 1991 4Runner 4x4 back from AAMCO trannys last week and it is driving absolutely fine, except for the ANNOYING noise that comes from somewhere in the dash. It sounds like a plastic gear spinning really fast and i've noticed it goes with the speed of the tires/tranny...not rpms though. It only does it early in the morning when I go to work and later in the day if I drive it, no noise. I've been told it could be something with the speedometer cable...is that a possibility? Do I need to take it back to AAMCO to see if they messed something up? Thanks

X's 2

it does sound like a speedo-cable issue, but if it wasn't doing it before you had it at the shop, then they are to blame, and it may void whatever warranty they give if they see it's been tampered with since it was there

1st thing I thought was the speedo cable. But like others have said bring it back and have them fix it.

Speedo cable. Lube it up with "Chain lube" (for motor cyle chains I think). Undo the cable from the t-case and body and hold it above the level of the dash, fill it wil the chain lube, let it drain down and fill again.

my old 4runner did that when it was below 15*f outside. I assumed it had something to do with cold, hard grease in the cable or the speedometer housing. but... I thought the 91 didn't have a speedometer cable? my 93 doesn't.
