real oil seal retainer stud removal

Well I am in the process of replacing the clutch and figured if I was in there id just replace the rear oil seal at that time. So the oil retainer plate is unbolted and the seal is broke. But the two stud in the oil pan are holding up the removal. I understand that they have to be removed or the oil pan has to be removed. Let just take removing the oil pan off the table. My question is do the studs have a torx like head to them like the exhaust studs do? If not how does everyone else remove them? Most of the threads I can find say to just use a set of locking pliers. Then replace them with bolts. What is the best solution?
