My Grand Cherokee quoted over $1k last week, and I'm not changing the color. I would ask what they're going to do to it exactly, they might be screwing you with a cheap enamel paint.

A $700 paint job will be good, not great but good. you must be talking about a MAACO shop or something along those lines.
The bottom line is that if you are looking for a showroom quality finish you will be disappointed for $700. for showroom I'd say anywhere from $1500 to $2000.

if you go the way of $700 you will find a few pieces of grit under the paint. You'll notice when you rub your hand over it. if its a good shop the masking and such will be good, and the shine will be fine.

IMO if you wheel your rig a $700 job should be more than adequate.

Yeah I used to paint vehicles on occasion, and it really takes a lot of work to get it right. I have seen the jobs that some of the common run of the mill places do and they aren't acceptable to be. I would be VERY cautios about a place that wants $700 or so to do it. the prep work is the most important part and they usually skimp on the taping off of things etc, they usually dont't do all the proper removal of badges and such......

Some places will cut you a deal if you do some of the prep work yourself.

Like removing the bumpers, lights, mirrors etc. etc. Taping the edges of everything your leaving in. Sanding down, doing your own body work etc. etc.

Like mentioned, the cost is in the prep, because without the proper prep your paint will look like crap, no matter who sprays it.
