Moving... need advice.
I am moving from New Mexico to PA soon. I currently have no CAT on my truck, just a cherry bomb which I hate. No emissions or inspection in NM so I never had a problem with it. Now that I'm moving I need to do a new exhaust set up. What cat and muffler is reccomended. I want something quiet. It doesn't have to be as quiet as stock, just not loud like this horrid cherry bomb. Thanks.

I'm in western PA, also, and there are no emissions tests where I live, so your good to go. But in the eastern part, they are a little more strict about it. So it depends where your headed, I am pretty sure that most of the state doesn't have requirements.

Likely you'll need an emissions test to transfer vehicle plates from NM to PA so given that, you'd have to check PA laws and see what their regulations are regarding converters.
You can basically never go wrong with OEM but aftermarket can cause issues.
Here in Cali, a law just went into effect that states that ANY aftermarket converter has to have the California Exemption Order (EO- which can be cross-referenced to verify that the vehicle / engine combination the part is being installed on has been tested by the manufacture and is certified to comply with emissions reg's) stamped on it in letters large enough to be read from 5' away and to BOTH sides of the vehicle.
Basically... even if any particular converter would work on say a 88 22RE, it has to be tested by the manufacturer ON an 88 22RE before the converter can be marketed and sold as a replacement for the vehicle and installed by the installer.
Just a head's up I suppose.

i live in ne pa all they do is check to see if you have a cat and if you have a gas cap that's it. i guess if you have a noticeable hole they might say somethin. i never had to buy a cat or a muffler but from what i've read people like flowmaster and people that have borla love it. i'm gonna get a borla sooner or later....hopefully. oh and everybody says get 2.25 to keep the right backpressure anything above is not restrictive enough for our 3vze's
