Ok, I looked more closely at mine. Looks like the plastic bumper surrounds(?) on the sides do help stiffen up the flap mount points. My driver's side plastic has already been munched once by a ledge. The flaps may be OK w/o the plastic side pieces. HMMMM.

SmittyBilt for sale

OK, talked me into it. I'm selling my SmittyBilt. I'd like to net $100 from it (after actual shipping <$20). For more info see this page.

Yeah, I was thinking about just getting some generic modflaps and trimming them up. On my 2nd gen there is one hole in the fender liner and two on the stock bumper surround. So I was thinking of either drilling a couple more holes or perhaps just hanging them from the "hoop" that goes from the corners of the Marlin bumper to the frame.

Nope they won't. I even offered to bring my truck to their shop and pay extra and they said they won't do it anymore for some reason. It's not hard to modify the mounts though. I wouldn't let that little thing deter you. With just a 1" body lift you could probably just bolt it on. I have a 2" and it was too low.

Remember that they're in CA. They weren't open when you posted your message. They're probably open now. Don't expect an instant response via email.

Marlin is near impossible to get ahold of. Get ready to hear this about a thousand times... " We are experiencing a high volume of calls please try again later" Usually around 9am seems to work for me

CBI made mine for a 1" body lift, and marlin's design is very similiar to steve's as far as the side supports.

Its worth it. and his customer service rocks. i did a review on mine somewhere. I had absolutley no adjustments or mods to make it fit. Its almost like he had my truck to build it on. and its far stouter than some of the others. the frame mounted brackets alone are 1/2 inch thick

here it is:
cbi bumper install

Has anyone that has a Marlin Bumper but didn't have it installed on their 4runners/trucks have it painted up and on the vehicle yet? I would like to see some more pictures.

I just read your write-up on the CBI rear bumper. I think that may have just changed my mind on bumper selection. I do have a question :

How come there seems to be a gap ... you can see it in the side shot of the bumper with the carrier on it. Are all aftermarket bumpers made this way or only for the 4runners? I'm still hookedd ... only curious.

The CBI's are a little more expensive. http://cbioffroadfab.com/v-web/galle...t_logo_resized

There's a price sheet for rear bumpers.
