Marlin Rear Bumper for 4Runner

Hi guys,

I'm thinking about getting a Marlin rear bumper for my '92 4Runner. Anybody have any pictures of one installed? All they have on their site is pickup pictures - and a pickup is significantly more elegant looking in the corner area when undressed. Just curious how they've handled the area just ahead of the corners.

Thanks,

Chris

Thanks! There are a couple in the area, but not many! Obviously she's a garage queen - been stuck in there for weeks now! My poor 4Runner has to sit outside in the cold.....

My truck is way too pretty for it's own good and I'm worried about how the section under the side bumper trim will look and how to attach mud flaps - they currently attach to that same trim. Perhaps I just need to "man up" and quit worrying about it......

How do you guys plan to finnish them? Marlin recommends Rustoleum - what do yuo guys think? I have a couple of cans of aluminum metallic rustoleum in the garage I thought might look sharp. Opinions?

C

I sandblasted mine and then primed it with clean metal primer and painted it with semi gloss rustoleum. It turned out pretty good.

Did it really need to be sandblasted?? That seems pretty rough for a new piece. I was hoping to just start with some etching primer.

i just cleaned the tubing a little and shot it w/ rustoleum primer. i then shot it with black rustoleum "hammered" spray paint and think it turned out ok. the hammered paint hides blemishes and defects...perfect! i could have done a better job as my skill improved by the time i was done. this was for my front bumper.

i haven't painted the rear yet, but i'm going to do it the same way. hopefully the paint holds up better than the front. i highly suggest one of those spray handles you can get at autozone as it makes painting MUCH easier and less painful.

Just thought that I would let you guys know. I just purcahsed the marlin rear bumper (hrew) this morning and they sent me the tracking number a few hours later. So they are obviously staying on top of these things now.

Yeah, I have mine on - I'm super happy with it. Here's a crappy picture - mean to wash the truck and get some better shots soon.....

Yeah, I just wiped it down good with brake cleaner, then hit it with etching primer and built up from there. No runs, no drips, no errors.

Yeah that looks good. I've been torn between what kind of bumpers to get for mine for over a year now and every time I am just about to buy one I like I see another one I like more. Dang all you YT'ers and your pics! LOL

I guess it's been a while since I have talked to you Phillip. I was unaware you were purchasing a rear bumper. I'm waiting on my taxes to come back and I'm taking a trip down to Budbuilt for some goodies. I'll tell ya the next time we talk.

I have a Marlin bumper in my future too. Let's see some pics of the darn things installed no more excuses.

Talking

thanks so much for starting this thread! I was thinking about the same thing. I have a 89 4runner as well and was wondering about the Marlin rear bumper as well. I found a picture of the rear bumper but it was a bit to big for me to post. Please post more pictures of Marlin bumpers( both front and rear) as well as sliders. thank you much!

The pics on Marlin's site are pretty good. They're all on pickups, but the Runner bumper is essentially the same. The Runner looks a little different under it, but the bumper is the same!

I'm still planning to post some but my truck has been getting uglier by the day lately!

Here's a crappy phone closeup pic I took for UK Meyers:
