Ok, ditch the visor, first of all, I don't like the look at all. Second, Make your own set of flares that are higher up and just look 100% more badass than those! Since you are a fabricator, that shouldn't be a problem for you. I'mn sure you could get ahold of a tube bender and some sheet metal, or even some 1/4 - 3/8 plate steel! HAVE FUN! As for the green, ot's the wrong tone, and way too much! I love green and I'm using it on mine to offset the black. If i was in your position,I'd paint it flat black with some fun little accents to it with another color (such as green.) In my case, I'm using Kawasaki green, my favorite! Enjoy!

the visors I don't like them. the high five on small trucks looks uber gay redneck.
I like the look of nerf bars or rock sliders on the 1st gens
I have a brochure from 1987 for the 4runner and in it there is a pic of a 4runner that is black with gold decals and it is a sharp looking truck.
I have the flares on my truck and it rusted out bad due to stuff building up behind them if I had installed the flares new on my truck I would have siliconed them so nothing could get in.
if you do get rid of the flares I will buy them from you.

Yes...see that was a worry for me. The flares absolutely PACK mud behind, and I take forever to pressure wash the ▓▓▓▓▓ out. It almost discourages me from going wheelin in mud to be honest. I go off road and avoid mud puddles because of it, so I started to consider yankin them off. I love gettin it muddy, but I don't want to rust either.
I've got alot of good input here. I think alot of people are similar to what I'm thinkin. I considered ditchin the visor, I think mostly everyone agrees on that....that's gone. I noticed with the top off, it kinds of makes the truck look weird because of that visor...the profile looks funny.
I may put more thought into getting the truck sprayed though. I think the one guy above brought up a good point of taking a clean truck and turning it into a rattle can truck. It makes me feel like it's taking a step towards further depreciation. I have access to paint boothes, maybe I should just explore that option and do a color change. Blue's are kind of appealing to me, as are some darker greens...hmmmm.
Couple more pics just for reference...trying to get my pics with the valance gone up as well.
Edit....valance removed....bad cell phone pics:

I would go silver and keep the bumpers and flares black. I think the topper would look good black as well........ I am starting a paint project on my 89 this week, has the original black paint.
edit: here is a pic of my old '87 that i sprayed in basecoat/clearcoat and left the flares black

Dark blue looks great, Another alternative to the rattle can is using high density rollers.. check out this thread:
http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/...ge=0&fpart=1&v
I have yet to try it but my buddy has some spare doors and fenders laying around from when he built his old rigs and said I can have them free so im gonna build some half doors, section + chop the fenders and try the roller method on them.

That's crazy, you have the same flares and visor.
Island Yota....that's a great thread on that. I have heard about it, but never read anything in depth....looks like I found my cheap paint job that works with the lack of a booth. That's my price range, and perfect for me....thanks big time for that link!

Keep the hood graphics, visor, flares, etc...all but the green. Go with banana yellow and a big, fat, gnarly stinger and call it the "Bumble-Runner"....
I jest, but the I do think the graphics are pretty cool....unique and all.

RC000E, I agree with your taste for dark greens too. I love my 3rd gen with the dark green on tan. This is my second truck in a row where I have had a dark green paint.

I think I remember seeing your truck on Craigslist a few months ago. I saw the green and quickly hit the back button. Other than the color it seemed pretty solid. My wife would not let me bring another project home...
I agree with losing the visor and flares. I run 33x12.5 on 15x10 w/o flares on my 87 and have not been harrassed yet. For the most part cops in this area are pretty cool.
Someone else mentioned getting a couple cans of primer and going that route at least temporarily. I agree with that just to lose the green. I'm about 10 different colors right now and plan on hitting the local Wal this weekend for about 10 cans of black primer for a temporary paint job.
BTW...looks 50 times better with the valence gone.

I'd remove the visor and if the flares are a pain to clean I'd probably take those off too. For paint I'd probably skip the rattle can and use either the mopar link or what this guy did to his Miata. I think it's similar to the mopar paint but supposedly easier.

For paint color I like white, silver, or maybe some shade of tan or brown. If that matches your interior better.

The valence definitely looks better sitting in the closet....

hey man, i think your toy is sweet and unique. but i can understand you wanting a change from that green. that's a tough green to handle. if you want to eliminate green altogether, including in the door jambs etc, you're talking a full body repaint. if i was going to do that, i'd start strippin' it down first, then make a decision: flat, single stage paint (like a nice red or white) or 2stage, clearcoat and metallic or whatever. that bright blue that the new tacomas are coming in is freakin' awesome. If you're gonna do a single stage flat, you can start priming yourself with some krylon. That will give you time to decide if you want to keep the flares, and add some fiberglass underneath to fill in where the mud collects. Cuz if you pull the flares, and keep those tires, you're gonna be chipping up your new paint in no time. You can fiberglass all the way around the inner wheel well and make it super easy to wash away mud with a hose.
if you're gonna do a nice 2 stage paint job, strip it as good as you can down to the body, (i mean take off every part that's removable, not strip the green paint) and find a good shop, like the one your local mercedes dealer uses, and let them do the prime and paint, then reassemble yourself.
the visor is purely preference, kinda like do you wear your baseball cap front or back. it gives some more shade for inside the truck, but does look a little country. i'm still on the fence over visors. but i don't like aftermarket tint strips across the windshield.
you can be creative and do a two tone paint job, i've seen one here that's black on top and silver on bottom, makes the removable top not look like just a pick up cap, and looks good with dark window tint.
a fun thing to do is this: take one of those nice pics of your truck, open it in your "Paint" program. then use the "eraser" tool to erase everything around the body of your truck, so that all that's left of the picture is what's green. once you have nothing left but green. save that as a new image, then open it in your photo editor program, where you can modify the color settings. you can then make the body of your truck any color you want. THEN- open the Paint program again and the original pic you started with, and THEN copy the modified color image you made and paste/drag it over the original. it will line up perfectly because its the same pic. you can then see what your truck will look like in any color you want. dig? have fun with that!
if you go with flat, i recommend white. nothing looks better than a white truck with mud spattered all over it. heheh

Not sure if you were serious...I would say no but heres some random info..
The wraps are an interesting idea.... I had some vehicles done with a company logo and graphics. (former Job) Looks good but fades out and a scratch will cost..... Moister can also get under it in spots and we all know how well the 1st gen holds up against rust......

I don't know how it would look, but if you've got a couple days for down time... paint it digital camo.
