Not that it matters much but the OP is in California where "universal" doesn't mean squat- it has to be tested and approved for the vehicle it is going to be installed on.

... yet.

Feds are mulling around laws forcing Cali regs on everyone.

Maybe you can claim stress from the emissions laws caused you to need universal health care.

yea, i had a OHP pull me over because the exhaust on my '86 22R was too loud (it was cruise night, and there were big block V8's running open headers...............) i have a header, and a 2.5" pipe that goes into a cheapo turbo muffler that dumps right under the back of the cab.

he stopped me, peeked under my truck and almost wrote me a ticket for not having a Cat.

that does not mean i'm going to run a cat though LOL!!! my '92 4runner isn't driveable yet and i'm itching to get that cat off!! hahahaha

... there is a vid on youtube, showing a dude install the Cat anti theft device; looks easy but time consuming. to the dude who took their CATs to the junkyard for sale- that guy was gonna rip you off!!! 10 bucks my !@#$ss, he was going to turn right around and sell them for 200, to a guy who will take them to Mexico, and sell them for 300!!!!
That is why they get stolen so much; headed for Mexico, they get big money, just like selling illegal weapons there.

... mostly stolen by illegal aliens, who cannot get legal car work or paper work, or inspections on their cars, they are resold to other illegals here, to put on their vehicles, or sold across the border, in Mexico. why? because about the only place to work and make any decent money, is in the resort towns, or Mexico city, and you have to have cars that pass inspections there. Most mexicans cannot afford a decent car with a cat converter, so they steal them here, sell them there.

Well, it seems to run fine now. Just hope it will pass smog when I take it in.

To whoever likes to take their cat out or hollow it out to get a better sound or to make it feel better in their butt-dyno: I hope you are happy to contribute to the smog in your town and neighborhood. There are very good reasons why cars are sold with catalytic converters.

This was a problem a couple years back here in New Mex, it kinda stopped happening though. Or at least we stopped hearing about it.

I don't know if it's just my cat but it's hollowed out and sounds like complete crap. I don't recommend doing it.

you are right; I am totally wrong! No illegals in n.m. or Texas, they don't steal CAT's, and sell them to put on their cars, or to resell them here , or across the border ... nooooope!
" pphhhhthththttt..." mimicking the response from Happy Gilmore, to the folks who said he should try to win to get on the tour...
