u need to drill and easy out those old screws..

this is what you need to do.. is ly some old shop towels down in the tanks so any metal shaving that fall into tank get caugt up in to the towels.

then you need to come back with a magnet and pickup any loose metal. and flush tank.. with some gas, water or diesel of some sort.. to get any dirty and debri out of there..

i also recomend that you put a magnet in the bottom of your tank as it will pick up any rust particles up out of your fuel in the future.. ( a old car stereo spear is ideal... just strip it down to the magnet)

if you apply some grease to your tap, it will catch most of your metal shavings if you have to do so..

also remember to use a shop vacuum to suck out any debri, or trash before reassembly

I have some old magnets I could use. Do I need to drop the skid to see the drain plug?

Dang, sorry to hear that.... what a dilemma this turned out to be, eh? Should be able to find a tank cheap at a yard... Plus, you'll be able to do a thorough flushing of the tank wherever you want, right?

Best wishes, Poynter! HAPPY HUNTIN!

PS> Maybe you could find a perfectly good pump bracket while there and save yourself 200$??? Just get the bolts from Yota, slap in the rust free bracket, paint up the top to prevent any further rust, pop in that plate, call it a day? Just a thought.

I'll have to call around on Monday since the yards are all closed. I'm not sure if they would take the bracket back.

The inlet where the bolts broke off has some little notches as if it was threaded on. Can I replace just the collar? I was going to take a hammer and brass punch and see if it would spin but wanted to check first in case it's threaded backwards or not at all.

Hmmmm, not sure. Not so funny how the Dealer can't just tell you from your vin, eh? BUT, someone on here should be able to tell ya... if not, lesson learned, sell it and get the right one. Is it identical to yours or have you not taken yours out yet?

Best wishes, Poynter,

Mark

After some searching it seems that the xcabs came with 19 gallon tanks. I haven't seen it yet since they called me back so late in the day but they say its a 19. For $35 its a chance worth taking. Heres a pic of mine that I took out. I used a few boards and a floor jack. I strapped it to the frame rail and the jack and then took off the strap around the frame once the bolts were all loose. Worked perfect.

good luck with the swap, dude. are you going to paint the entire tank, or just the top part where the bracket mounts?

Just got back from the recyclers with the tank. It looks like its in pretty much the same shape as mine except no broken bolts in the collar. In case anyone was wondering, yes a 19 gallon tank will fit in the trunk of a vw jetta.

I have some bedliner stuff in a gallon can I thought about rolling it all over once I pressure wash it. Whats the best thing to flush the tank with?
