Fix it up again or move on...92 4runner
I love my 92 4runner and have enjoyed travelling all over the western U.S. painting houses but I think it may be time to upgrade. It's time to rebuild the 3.0 but I don't think the juice is worth the squeeze. I've been wanting to put a 3.4 in there but havn't had success finding a donor engine. I've been scouring the COpart auctions but no real donor vehicles there either. I'm thinking of buying a later model, 97 - 2001 that's got some not too serious damage from the auction and fixing it up. Or perhaps getting back into a small 90-95 little pickup with a 22re.
Any good ideas on where to find a 3.4? I'm just fishing at this point....

Copart is an excellent source for a donor. But, If you're in california, I'd check out specialized parts planet or the local junkyards in Rancho Cordova. You can buy everything required for the swap for 1400-1500 bucks. ( engine, harness, and ecu )
Rebuilding the 3.0 isnt a bad option either. it lasts a long time, just doesn't have the power...

exa frigging lent!! I'm going to be out in Cali and not far from Rancho Cordova and also a couple of the big copart yards. If I could buy something either rolled with a good engine or not too smashed up and just repair that would work. My good old 92 is at 297,000 and that does worry me a bit.
One bit of advice from me. Put some slick50 in your 3.0. I don't think you can get it in cali but it's available everywhere else. I bought some in Nevada last time I was rolling through. Seems like the 3.0's crank bearings like to give it up at 250K. I think the slick50 will give you a lot more then that.
