Fill transfer case from top?

Ok so i have a 94 4runner with a 5spd. I went to change the transfer case and tranny fluid today and I find that the P.O. had stripped the plug completely and had tried to use a hammer and punch to get it out but failed. My question is can i drain the old 90wt out, and refill the case with the specified amount of fluid by taking the shifter boot off and funneling it in from the top where the levers mount? And does anyone know off the top of their heads what the specified amount is for the transfer case on this rig

Yup, it's possible; ive done it. Just remenber to pull both shifters. The trans & transfer cases are separate inside.
As for the capacity, i dont know, maybe someone will chime in.

i did it when i did my twin stick conversion, i just poured what i had out of the transfer case into a bucket and re-used it, filling it up cup by cup.

what engine do you have, or even a transmission or transfer case code will be even better. i'll look the capacities up for you.

FYI, im sure you know this, but just incase somone else is peeking on here that doesnt know, once you pull the shift boot covers off, theres 4 bolts holding on the shift plate, and once thats removed you will see 2 shift rails. Just pour it in there.

Capacity varies, depending on engine & tranny type, but none of them take over 2 qts:
