fan pulley lock up

fan pulley lock up
ok i was driving to lunch and my belts started squealing and burnt off. So I replaced the belts thinking that it was just the heat that messed up my belts ( i live in Texas ) Well what really happened is that the pulley that the fan is on locked up causing friction which burnt the belts. The fan, and clutch seem fine they both rotate firmly by hand as they should but the pullies behind it will not rotate. What causes this and what needs to be done to fixs this.

Consider yourself lucky. When the bearing in the pulley housing goes out, it usually grenades and you end up with a ton of collateral damage. The pulley housing is incredibly expensive. So be prepared.

Fan Bracket
kccorvette, Sounds like you had a lock-up in your fan bracket. Check out this link here, the fan bracket is right in the middle.
