years after the stock horn on my dads 86 went out we put air horns on it..... and then those stopped working. my antenna also just stopped going up and down.

i have a 90 3.0 and it has 240,000 on the original engine and still runs strong(well for a 3.0) and burns no oil.

I've given up trading my 4Runner for: a Ford Taurus with 26K miles (4Runner had about 90K at the time) and a Nissan Maxima with 38K miles (4Runner had about 180K at the time). Guess which of the three is still on th road. 230+K and still kicking. Not without problems, but you still have to forcefully stop things from turning before it won't go.

its all relative, still just a machine. if it was properly cared for, 150k is NADA. if ignored and abused, then maybe you'll need a motor soon...
I bought Whitey with 190k on, and now he's up to 202,000, the rods clatter a bit, and you have to run 20-50 to get decent oil pressure, but the engine puts out great power, and I bet I can run him another 30k at least before doing anything. I have a replacement short block sitting in the garage just waiting...

The only problem I've found is due to living in Jersey and the lovely frame rot we have to offer. If the frame isn't rotted that thing will drive longer than you should legally be allowed to. Take care of it and it will take care of you. The only thing I don't trust on my 89 217k 3.0 5spd is the non toyota part, the tires. I'm picking up an 89 22re 5spd soon with that jersey rust and it will be my DD. I'd put more faith in these trucks than anything else I've owned that's why I drive them, that and its not a me too 4x4 like a jeep.

I have an '89 pickup I bought with 268,xxx miles on it in late march. it just rolled 271,000 miles on thursday when I took it on a 600 mile round trip death race to get a solid front axle for it.

it went 80 miles an hour for an hour, twice in the same day !!

I could not believe it. we thought we were going to kill the poor truck. this is not a flat area... look at a topographic map of the finger lakes region of new york some time

the truck and I left my house at 9am. we got a flat tire at 9:15am. 4" screw in the tire must've picked up in the driveway... plug that, get rolling again and pick my friend up along the way about 10am. we got back to his place at 9:30pm after a day of solid driving.

I so trust my 4runner I just had to do some work but hey its an 89 with over 300,000 on it now thats a damn truck. I am looking into getting it rebuild here soon or getting a motor from DOA

I've got 320,000 on my '88 22re, 5 sp., 4x4, 4Runner. Original motor still runs great, though it's a little tired. It hasn't had a major tune up in years, but I've always changed the oil religously and kept up with other repairs. I've replaced just about everything but the engine, AND it's rust free. Good to go for a while.

ok i have an 87 runner and i live in milwaukee and i droe her to canada the up greenbay indina and where ever i kinda feel like driving and oh yeah shes kissing 200K and a lil smoke but yeah i trust her like we were married!

1987 2wd longbed 22r 5 speed -bought with 142,000 on it and i took it to 260,000 when it broke one valve. it got one new valve and a new head gasket and is still running with about 290,000

1990 2wd xtracab 22re automatic -bought with 105,000 new top end at 155,000 and another at 211,000 with its first new timing chain. sold at 235,000 still running great original auto tranny never broke.

1993 2wd xtracab 3.0 automatic - garaged senior citizen one owner bought last year with 146,000 and i plan to keep forever.

for what i paid i could have easily found a 2000 ranger kingcab

I think you have a great truck there. Can't emphasize enough the importance of regular maintenance. My current Runner, is the highest mileage veh I have ever owned at 209k + (Odometer stopped working). Before this truck I had a '90 BMW 525i w/172k. I bought my Runner w/197K and it's my daily driver. They are amazing trucks!

Seems the biggest complaint is the horn. I never use the horn, I am going slow so other people honk at me!

just putting my two cents in.. i have a 88 22re with 250,113 original miles on it. it drinks 10w-30 oil like some people (like myself) drink beer. it goes through 5 quarts in about a month. a solution to this is to use straight 30w. my mechanic reccomended it to me, and its been 2.5 months and theres barely a drop of oil gone. im sure it burns oil like that due to neglect by previous owner. other than that its a sound engine. pop a header on it and a new gibson exhaust system with a magnaflo muffler and it turns heads.

Yeah, I agree with the rest, IT'S A TOYOTA and if you're worried, I'll get in line I bought my '94 with around 156k and have only put a couple necessary parts on it that were worn out when I bought it (idler arm, shocks and a radiator) and that's all I've done for the last 21,000 miles other than oil changes and gas... lots of gas..

My 4Runner is a part of the family, and m wife would give me holy heck if I ever talked about selling it. I'd drive it anywhere, any time of the year without worries (but with tools). Oh yeah, and I do wheel it regularly without any ill effects.

Your mileage may vary, literally. I just blew a head gasket on my '87 22r'd truck. I've put about 30k on it since I've had it, got it with only 85k miles. Since I paid about $600 for the entire truck, I'm doing a valve job/timing chain/whole shebang since I plan on keeping the truck for awhile. It's all about how committed you are to keeping a vehicle. I've known people that have gotten rid of cars because they broke a fan belt.
