Alternator vs battery question
Just a quick question about my 91 pickup 3VZE. I was on my way to work today, and the dash lights started dimming while the turn signal was on. Turned on the heater and the dash went right down for a 1/2 sec and back on. Get to work and turn it off. Tried to start it again and not even enough power to turn it over.
Question: If its just the battery that's toast, will it run just off the alternator if I jump start it? My meter and tools are all at home and I have no way of testing anything here.
I'm guessing if the alternator has packed it it, it won't even jump start since the battery is now drained.
Oh, and did I mention its cold and raining outside too. Fabulous.
Thanks guys.

So, if it does stay running, but the battery won't hold a charge, replacing that should fix it. I'm just curious if the battery is only necessary for starting, and once its running, does it all run off the alternator?
