95 4runner shimmy and shakes real bad
i have a 95 4runner that drives me crazy going down the interstate.as soon as i get to about 60 mph,it will intermittenly start to shake the entire car, then(not changing speed or rpm)it will stop and ride smooth as a new one.2 seconds later, back to the shaking.then once again it smooths back out????it does this constantly as i drive down the road.i thought it might be my tires out of balance, but it doesnt do it constantly and rythmically like a tire or wheel.just rough, then smooth, back and fourth.i got the tires balanced any way, just in case, torqued my lugs, and still the same problem.i have found that my drivers side shock is worn out and that the pass. side idler stud that goes into the centerlink has a little wobble.could these things be causing such a problem?and would they make it shake then smooth then shake then smooth?also when it starts to shake,i can barely feel it in the steering wheel,no where near as much as i can in the entire body.and i cant feel it at all in the auto tranny shifter(thought maybe if it were driveline it would shake the shifter)?i had the centerlink recall done about 6 mo. ago and they supposedly did an alignment.could that be it?please give me some pointers before it shakes and breaks something else. or i break it!!! thanks

do you have any lift on it? That was my problem, I had a loose bolt near the control arm on the lift kit. If I recall I was also missing a bushing in the rear anti-sway bar. I replaced the bushing and that's when my friend noticed the loose bolt. That was the contributing factor to breaking my rear axle housing the next time I went wheeling due to the stress on the weld and axle. If not find few shops in town to see if they notice anything.

Any resolution to this?
To WORKINPRIGRESS/anyone
Have the same problem with my '95 4runner (125,000 mi. 5spd) and have had all the usual stuff done - rear brks redone, balancing, even replace pitman arm -- top mechanic has had a look and driven it -- not giving up just yet but for sure some ghost inside the machine. Comes and goes starting at between 55mph and 70mph. Starts as a slight vibration then within 30 seconds builds to severe shaking until I slow down to about 50mph. Upon re-acceleration it sometimes comes back sometimes not. usually starts after I have been driving on the highway for at least 15 minutes or so. Seems like it may be coming from the rear but can't tell for sure. Does not appear to be related to steering or to braking/acceleratuon as I can't get any real correlation between the phenomenon and wheel/gas/brk. Would like to get another 100k out of this rig but having second thoughts and may dump it. Have you/anyone solved it?
