88 yota... V6 or 22RE

I just picked up a 88 pick up and it has a V6 with about 156,000 on it. It runs very nice, I have a few things I need to do and I will have alot of questions over the next year for you guys.

First question, the truck came stock with the V6, I have been thinking of having someone rebuild it for me. Should I rebuild it or buy a new or rebuilt 22RE? With is better? my goal is to repaint this clean truck, lift it 4 inches and run 33's in the future. I have found tons of rebuilt 22Re's around in Washington and no V6's.
Second question, what would I need to swap out the V6 for the 22re, or is it a simple bolt in deal.
Thanks for the help,
Jake

a 30 sec search would yield a bit of info on this subject.

your whole computer/harness will not work with a 22re.
your transmission will not work.
i think the motor mounts are different also.

The 3VZE has a different frame than the 22RE. This means swapping the 22RE in will require modifying the frame- engine mounts, etc. By the time you're done doing the cutting and welding and buying what you need to bolt the 22RE to the 3VZE driveline... you could've rebuilt the 3VZE.
Alternately, a 5VZE out of a later 4Runner / Tacoma is an option. Less mechanical modifications are required to install that engine, but possibly more electrical work: harness, ECU, etc., but overall, the electrical work is comparable to changing from the 3VZE to a 22RE and carries the added benefit of more horsepower than even your current V6 delivers.

88-yota

well, you say your truck has 156k. miles, and runs very nice. WHY you want to mess around with that toy?

You must have got the only 3.0 that toyota ever built that actually has power then.

Youre only half way to a rebuild. And the 88's don't usually blow head gaskets.

Many people complain about them being low on power, but they do last if taken proper care of.

I've got 229,xxx on mine.

Everyone above chimes in well with very good points. If you're going to rebuild, rebuild the V6. Cheaper in the long run.
