I have to admit I'm a bit more risky than most with my mods, but this one was very solid.

1. Took me about 3 hours to put it on but I am very meticulous, so some could do it faster. Also did ISR mod at the same time.

2. It is essentially plug and play, no wiring or permanent changes needed. If you don't like it, just put the stock setup back on with no issues. Can't imagine not liking it though! Power is addicting.

3. Junkyard. I wouldn't buy a new one, too pricey. I bought the meter and the air box (both halves, they use the same air filter though) for about $70 at the local yard.

4. Maybe. I'd recommend scrapping it though unless you've got 3" piping. 2.5" (stock size) is too restrictive and you won't get the full benefit.

The benefits? Better throttle response and possibly a slight HP gain, not verified though. Definitely accelerates much better at low and high RPM's since it breathes much better. Also bumped up my MPG's a solid 1 MPG (mixed I'm at 18.5)

The trickiest part is adjusting the AFM and then hooking up the hoses. The 7MGE doesn't have the resonator boxes for the PCV and the A/C idle up hoses. You'll have to either mount some nozzles yourself or purchase a 3" universal kit like I did and buy some bulk hosing.

A Photo are worth a 1000 words (note that the blue filter is now a hose connecting to the air intake):

V6 Camry? Really? A v6 Camry is a 3vz-fe. A 7mge is out of a Supra or a Cressida and its a straight 6 powerhouse of a motor. I paid 50 dollars for my AFM from a junkyard. I bought the air box as well. Keeps things simple. No cone filter mod needed. My warm idle is 550 and cold idle is 950.

I was in the yard the other day and I think he's right. There seems to only be two kinds of VAFM's, the "small ones" on our trucks and the "big ones" on the other V6 engines. I didn't want to be the guinea pig to see if they worked or not so I took it off a Supra.

I'm gonna take another look at the V6 Camrys and such to see if there's anything else I can raid off the engines that will help ours.

I'm actually intrigued by that. I would be curious about the size difference between the Camry and pick ups AFM. Any chance you can get some measurements of your AFM? Mainly the body height and the diameter of the opening at the back. I'm glad its working, I was just surprised.

yea, give me a few minutes so i can snap some pics of it and ill show the measurements.

there is a post on one of the many toyota forums that listed all the afms that

had the same pins as the one on the 4runner 3.0..and the camry was an option.

Wow it looks like the same dimensions as my 7mge AFM. Good to know!

Here is my set up:

The hole to be drilled:

The adjustment screw underneath:

I would recommend, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Don't mess with the screw if you don't have to. I did this swap on a friends truck and never had to touch that screw. I messed with mine for weeks trying to get it right.

If you look at the AFM from the front, the side that you can see the door, there is a small bypass window in the bottom right corner. The screw you are asking about controls how much air will pass thru that slot.

The screw is already there. You have to drill out the cover to adjust it. If its running good then i say don't mess with it

I didn't have to adjust mine. I drilled it out but was perfect from the start, I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

7mge air flow meter

This is really helpful...I think I'll try it!
Hey DeathCougar! Taiko here; long time no see my friend!
Can you PM me with prices for everything I'd need for a plug and play drop-in 7mge air flow meter with the airbox attached?
After looking at the sizes between the stock 3vze AFM and the 7mge that we're discussing here it looks like a lot more air!
I am not sure what I will need to drill/change; I get the feeling I will post here more often once I receive the part!
Thanks again buddy and hi again all the way out to you in Washington State -T

PS. GamefreakGC- can you tell me about the 3" Spectre intake?
Will that spare me having to create my own new ISR mod?
Currently my ISR mod is 2.5 and I think I will want to go 3" (thanks again for your great post explaining that!).
Did you take that pipe and modify it from one of these: http://www.spectreperformance.com/in...ta-trucks.html

Hard to say, don't know what kind of ISR mod you have on there. All you need off the 7MGE is the VAFM and the air box though so that's a good place to start. If you can, read though the thread in my sig. It has more complete info than this thread (bone_collector and I both add tips & suggestions).

No, I bought this:

Amazon.com: Spectre Performance 8208 Chrome 3" Universal Intake Tube Kit: Automotive Amazon.com: Spectre Performance 8208 Chrome 3" Universal Intake Tube Kit: Automotive

Oreily and I think Napa sells them. Was the easiest route but not the cheapest, paid $40 for it.
