127,458 miles

Minor rebuild at 115,432 for a bad bearing...nothing serious. Timing belt was replaced at ~115-120k

I LOVE MY TOYOTA!

Ive only had the regular stuff done at 80K, belt, water pump, oil seals and stuff under the front cover. Starter at about that time too. I made it untill 130000 then it just upchucked. 2 fuel injectors and a warped exhaust valve led to redoing the top end. At 150000 miles, the fan bearing went out and the AC has lost its freon. Aside from a few other minor odds and ends that about does it. Im still at 150k now, but not sure where Im going with it. Later.

Unhappy

Some of these stories really have me worried. I don't have the know-how or the tools to tear into my motor to fix it. And I'm sure as hell not going to spend at least half of what my truck is worth trying to fix it. So that leaves me one option...maybe I'll get another Toyota but we'll just have to see. I hate this motor.

93 SR5 V6 4x4 pickup, 5 speed...

110k miles, never had head gaskets, one timing belt at 67k...

the truck in general got it's first tune up (plugs, wires, fuel filter etc) at 99k miles The plugs still looked FINE, just the right coloration to them. I put a TRD clutch in at 96k. So far have been pretty happy with it!

Can someone explain the head gasket recall thing to me? How long are they honoring it? What's the procedure for replacement (paperwork wise) if one does go?

-Will

oh yeah, I see usually 18mpg around town etc. and near 22 on the highway, which impresses me because my truck rarely sees a vacuum signal

156000 Miles.

Timing belt at 95000
Alternator went out at 110000 and I got a genuine Toyota rebuilt.
Head gasket recall was taken care of by the previous owner and has never given me problems. Been very reliable for a gutless little V6. Power steering pump leaks but its still a small leak.

Well I have roughly 5,000 miles on my new engine. Here's what happened to my old engine. It died with about 160K on the motor. It was a painful, but a very big learning expirance for me.

Currently sitting at 226,086km still going strong. Two headgaskets replaced and two timing belts. I bought it used and it still has 3 months warranty left. A bit of a gas pig but still good enough for the girls I go with.

My old '89 4Runner (1st Gen.) with 3.0L V6 went over 265K miles in 9 years since bought it brand new. It is gone a long time ago. I traded it for new '98 because my 3 children growing too big. I remember it had only two unscheduled repairs. The water pump replaced under the warranty at 88K (due to a high pitch noise on bushing), and timing belt roller replaced at 179K (discovered a loose roller bearing during a routine belt replacement). I used 10w-30 cheap brand name motor oil and changed every 3-5K miles. The headgasket never blown or replaced, even though it was qualified for recall. I don't want anyone mess with it, no reason to fix if nothing is wrong with good headgasket. The average gas mileage was around 18 to 20 mpg on 33" tires with auto tranny and 4.10 axle gear ratio. In my opinion, I consider 3.0L V6 engine is highly reliable.

I have 240,000 on my 1993 ext cab 4x4 p/u with a 3vz-E. had head gasket recall done about 85000; trans rebuilt, ball joints, idler arm, cv boots, water pump, (just about due again, making noise), power steering pump leak fixed (mechanic rebuilt pump with gasket kit), I think thats just about it. I added some hella fog lights, backup lights, and 55/90 hella headlights. Am orig. owner, and am pretty happy with it. My lastest problem is a high idle, it will only drop down to below 1000 rpm if i put it in gear and slowly let the clutch out with the brake held, then it drops back down to 750 or so. I also had a problem where the #6 spark plug cracked, I heard this happens about every 3k miles once the engine gets older. Anyone have any additonal information on any of the problems?
Thanks

That's because you got the last of the good gaskets with asbestos. There is a section now for trucks that have this motor: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=116

360,000 KM on my 1990 sr5 4runner. Head gasket recall not applicable to this engine but head gasket blew at 260,000. Original head gasket as far as I could tell. Bought truck at 160 on the odometer. a few timing belts and water pumps in between then and now. The most major work was around 200,00 KM when I replaced all seals and gaskets in the engine including front and rear main seals cam shaft seals etc etc. I have heard plenty of negative press on the 3.0 (slow) but mine performs like new and pulls hard through all gears. I wouldnt consider a swap as I have pulled many a boat and heavy trailer through the mountains of BC, Alberta, Alaska and never missed a beat. The engine has never let me down and even when I got a check engine light on a trip up the old alaska hiway. That CEL threw a code for the oxygen sensor so I slid underneath the rig on the side of the hiway and found that a clip holding up the O2 sensor wire (black coaxial wire) had broken and fallen down on to the exhaust pipe and melted through the coaxial. If anyone is wondering yes it is possible to repair a coaxial cable on the side of the hiway with nothing but some side cutters wire strippers and electrical tape. A bit tricky but I did the repair and it lasted the rest of the trip back to Vancouver. That said I love my 3.0 slow it gets me and my family and 12 foot tent trailer or 16 foot fishing boat anywhere I want to go.

I wanna be buried in my Toy

202,000 miles and going strong! New O2 sensor recently bumped by poor fuel mileage back up to a decent 20 mpg when I take it easy. Pulls strongly to 5k rpm and never had a head gasket issue, even though I overheated it pretty badly (ALL water blown out of the system!) @ 196,000 mi. due to failed water pump.

1992

My 1992 died at 180k. Head gasket recall done at 35k. Used about a quart of oil every 3 to 4k. Great tork, horrible horse power and gas mileage sucked.

my 95 runner has 157,000 on it. Head gasket blew the day after I bought it from the auction. That's what I get for buying it from an auction. that was at 146,000. I'm not sure if i was applicable for the HG. I didn't even know that toyota had a recall until a few months after I had already put in. I would like to know this just so I can kick myself in the a** for it. I have been putting 10w30 high mileage from castrol and pretty happy with it. She burns about 1/4 of a quart every 3000 miles. I do the change every 2500 (I like to baby it)
