Correction for you...part of the PAIR system. The vsv is not a system... it stands for vacuum switching valve. There are vsv's in many different systems on a Toyota.

No problem. You do have both hoses connected where they should go, right?

sure do

I do... My mounting bracket just snapped off in the cold, it was the little plastic ear on the side of it. I wasn't sure exactly what it did or if it could be removed all together!! Ill just get a small L bracket and some thick self tapping screws and just thread them right into the plastic... Thanks again for all the help!

It is just a hollow box.

The brackets on mine were busted, so I took it out. Afterwards, i cut it open.... its just an empty box. Toyota said it was just used as an elbow so the hose didnt have to be so long and curved funny.

Mine also broke off not long after I had my K&N hooked up. I just got a garden hose repair coupler with hose clamps and joined the two hoses where the resonator used to be. I still pass smog, it idles fine for the most part, and the PAIR makes the intake growl during decel and sometimes at idle.

Whoever you talked to at Toyota is on crack. That would be a pretty big and expensive elbow, wouldn't it?

As I mentioned above, since the PAIR system operates with pulses (exhaust gas goes above and below atmospheric pressure as the exhaust valves open/close), the resonator is included in the system to help baffle out the pulses that would be present in your intake air if the resonator was not there.

And without the resonator installed, as nv4Runner mentioned above, "the PAIR makes the intake growl during decel and sometimes at idle."

The sexy growl at idle compliments the roar at WOT very nicely. Now I just need a louder exhaust system to complete the job.

What is the bottom resignator for, the one that you take out when you do the ISR mod and have to re-route that smaller diameter hose to the intake?
