Has anybody swapped for a Weber carb on their 22R? My carb needs a rebuild, and I'm thinking of swapping to a weber 38. Do all the vacuum lines/fuel lines, etc. connect right up? Any pros/cons?

Fix y our stock carb. WHats wrong? Items common to fail, first is a leaking AAP diaphram, then no accel pump, plugged squirt nozzle, plugged idle circuit, not to much more. The Webber will be cobbly, make noise, no HP, suck fuel, and never pass emissions in your state.

Give me more details, ie year, model and symptom, we can fix it dude!

I have to agree with Tech. Fix your factory carb. Mine was a bit of a headache chasing down it's issues, but let me tell you, when I finally got it right, it has been fantastic! Great power, great mileage....

ok, good. Mileage is what I'm going for. It's the original carb with 244k miles on it. I bought the truck in January, and I'm gettin a new longblock installed this week. Was just putting a thought out there, I've heard people say the webers are less complicated, some say they are, so just wondering. I assume after 244k miles a carb would at least need a rebuild. When I open the throttle, The carb sucks air in hardcore for 1-2 seconds and then revvs up, it's running rich and spews black smoke when I rev it, but sometimes it doesn't, the choke always sticks even after cleaning the carb HARDCORE with carb cleaner . . .

Yup, it'll need the usual tweakings....maybe search those out. I'd list them, but am bound to omit a few...

itll be cheaper to rebuild the carb you have.
either carb is simple. 244K=time to rebuild it

can an AAP go bad without leaking fuel? my secodnary sucks and aap seems good

Wont leak externally, but internally. Remove the vacuum hose going to it, you should see no liquid (gasoline) in it. If so, replace the diaphram.

Just get a carb rebuild kit and rebuild your factory Asisn.
I just rebuilt mine (2xxk) and it looks brand new.

what's a good place to get a rebuild kit? Also, what's different if mine is a federal emissions engine? It has the HAC, and all the federal crap on it. . .

I think federal is the regular one, same as Canada (I don't have my service manual at work so...).
I believe the 2 are Federal and California.

I got my rebuild kit from Parts Source (Canadian Company). Napa didn't list on apparently and Toyota no longer carries or makes on according to the dealer I called.
I'd try any parts store really (Napa, Pep Boys, Auto Zone, etc). They should be able to get it for you.
The kit I bought is made by Neioff (sp?) and according to my friend who rebuilt the carb, was pretty good. Only cost me about $50 CND.

picked up a Niehoff kit today, 36 bucks with military discount got a guy who's gonna rebuild it for me

I love my weber 38, its a bit thirsty, but i think my stage 2 cam contributes for most of that. Its definately got some grunt and the only vacuum line i have now is for the vacuum advance on the dizzy. Makes for a clean engine bay!
