Lightbulb Toyota Hauler?

I was thinking about doing a diesel swap to a 2L-T with a compound turbo, dually conversion to 8 lug, dual 4" smoke stacks and a flatbed with 5th wheel to tow my trail rig with. Would it really be worth the $$$ to build a one of a kind mini hauler?

if you want to tow your trail rig, buy a full size truck. I've read threads of people towing over 4000lbs with their toyotas, but you're not going to be going over 50mph.

Its definitely possible, because you don't need torque to tow, you need torque to tow at high speeds and to maintain speeds going up hill.

Well, I was kinda figurin' if I could get a good diesel setup that I might be able to tow without breakin to much of a sweat.

you'd be better off with a diesel, but don't expect much power. You'll be better going up hills, but you probably won't be able to go any faster overall.

The diesel engine is probably the only thing in your plan that will help you. The dually will slow you down and is unnecessary. If you're using a trailer with properly adjusted tongue weight, you're not going to have enough weight over the axle to require anything more than the stock axle.

The smoke stacks will just be obscene. Both visually and audibly. But if you like it go for it.

short wheelbase, light weight and narrow axles combined with the heavy weight of towing another rig makes for a nasty mess on the side of the highway when you're upsidedown and sideways, hopefully not taking out a minivan full of kids or my own family.

buy a real truck (full sized) if you want it to do real truck things.

I like the idea & the 2l diesels are strong engines...you could easily tow 4000 (just beef up your frame a bit) note: it would help if you had the xcab frame because of the extra 10 inches of frame/wheelbase to give you more stability.

i think it could be done but you might want to do it w/ a different base rig from the beginning...like find a diesel xcab (THAT would be SWEET) then build it up from there.

ps-I love the big rig look feel & digg the flaps/stacks!
