I'm back with a '84 xtra cab

I wish I never would have sold my old red '85 xtra cab, I have missed it ever since the day I watched it drive away. Finally I have gotten my hands on another one, but this one is a 1984. Bonus is I don't have to do a solid front axle conversion anymore! The truck is overall pretty solid with the exception of the upper A-pillars having some rust through. I bought it with an engine miss when I put it under a load, especially at highway speeds. It has what looked like a weber carb on it, but after some research I believe it's a solex progressive. Not sure if i've got a carb issue or an ignition issue yet but i'll get to the bottom of the problem soon. Tomorrow morning i'm picking up tune up supplies; plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and oil change kit. If it still misses I plan to check the timing then move on to the carb. Best part of the truck is it has 4 new BF Goodrich Mud Terrain tires on it, worth more than half what I paid for the truck.

Good looking truck! I love the old BFG muds, they're great tires! What are your plans for it?

Is the bed off an'84 2WD? I have seen that style bed on the 2WD in '84 model year, but my '84 has a different bed. No lip on the top rail. Just wondering...

Looks like a Japan bed. I almost put one on my 86 4x4 but I prefer the way the American beds look.

Yes, I was told the bed was replaced somewhere down the line, and the hood is a replacement also. I love the bed because my first vehicle ever was a 84 toyota 2wd truck with this type of bed. My plans for it are basicly cosmetic, I want to repair the rust on the A-pillars with sheetmetal if I can find some donor pillars from the scrap yard. The truck was originally red, but i've always wanted a black one, so i'd like to repaint the whole truck black. Interior needs to be re-done, it has a bench seat with fold down armrest that I would like to re-upholster, carpet needs to be replaced, and the dash is cracked. When it's done I want it to look nice and new, A/C and everything. It's got a long way to go, until then it'll do just fine taking me to the local fishing spot.

Update! Got the miss out completely. Once I put in the new NGK plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor it runs great. Now it's on!

even though the miss is gone I can still feel it bog down if I give it too much pedal, wondering what I need to address next, accelerator pump?

My truck has been running better the more I drive it, Just been working on cleaning it up, it had been sitting for quite a while. The rims were pretty oxidized, too bad for polish to clean up, so I had to take sandpaper to them. I stepped down from 800 to 1000 and then mother's polish, they look alot better now. Bolted on a couple of lights I had laying around the garage, picked up a relay, but still need to wire everything up next weekend.

The wheels look great!
If you haven't tried it yet, a Seafoam treatment works miracles on these engines.
