Crashed my mint 4runner...now the blinker doesn't work.

Frequent lurker here...

My '87 4Runner SR5 is no longer in mint condition. I bought the 4runner about 3-4 yrs ago with 92,000 original miles -the truck was literally like new. Stored inside, well maintained by a person who drove it only 4000 miles a year! The top has never been off. It has the original carpets with no wear! The only downside was it was automatic.

My wife and I kinda "fight" over who gets to drive it -we always keep wondering if we should store it for the winters because the car is such a classic (we also have an Tacoma, but the 4runner is more fun to drive) Well, this morning my wife put it into a concrete barrier at about 50mph after hitting black ice and spun a 360. She was quite a wreck, but is fine (and did a good job limiting the damage). I expected the 4runner to be in bad shape. Suprisingly its completely drivable and looks like a minor fender bender. I pulled a lot of metal away from the tire, removed a few things that were hanging, and salvaged what I could find.

Once started, the 4runner seemed to be stuck in 3rd gear and was very boggy driving forward, yet drove in reverse fine. This turned out to be the 15amp fuse which shorted when the blinker was destroyed (the 'battery' dash light was on too...and neither the tach nor 4wd lights worked).

The Question:
We got the 4runner home and I have had a better chance to inspect her...after replacing the right blinker bulb in the wiring harness (there is nothing left of the light lens/frame) the bulb lights and works fine, but now the Left (undamaged) blinger doesn't light. The dash blinker light flashes quicker on the left side, but blinks normal on the right. I checked the left blinker bulb and it appears to be fine. Any idea what is causing the left light not to blink? Is there some missing ground wire?

Thanks for any info!

Check your grounds in the engine bay. My blinker went out back when I replaced my bumper. Turns out the wires came loose in the plug, had to slice in a new blinker socket.

replace the blinker flashers. My friends truck had a short in the turn indicator and both of them would blink super fast. New blinker flasher solved the problem.

Hope this helps
