I read and searched and guess I have to post this new thread, as I can't find answers.

Amidst the TDI swap and pulling the transmission and transfer case, I see that I need the input shaft bearing on the G52 5spd. I lack the press to remove and install. I finally found a shop that will do it, but it sounds like major effort. In my 1985 factory service manual, I read that the G52 needs to be cracked open, gears removed, the input shaft and bearing put in a vice, the old input shaft bearing pressed out and the new one pressed in.



The Toyota part number for my 84's input shaft bearing is PN 90363-32024-77. (It's VIN dependent here, as that bearing comes in two different widths - 20mm or 23mm) I think that the outer diameter is the same, though (80mm). Toyota couldn't give me my specific dimensions when I asked (!!)

My question: does the transmission indeed have to be separated at the intermediate plate, gears removed, and the shaft and bearing then pressed out? (This necessitates resealing the intermediate plate, too.)

I don't think its necessary to do a complete diassembly. Just remove the snap ring and aluminum housing. I don't know how he did it but my dad was able to pull the bearing out through the input shaft.

Oh yeah, he also managed to chip off a small piece from the tip of the input shaft.
