22-R Timing chain links? Need help ASAP

So I went to the store to get a new timing chain for my 84 Pickup and they gave me a double wide chain. Well as it turns out the truck had a single wide chain on it, so I went back to exchange it. The one single wide chain that they were selling has less links then the one I pulled off which has 49 links. Where do I find the right chain? The dealer quoted me $150 but they did not know how many links it has. I need help asap beacause I have to finish this truck now. Thanks.

If the chain they tried to sell you had fewer links, then it was probably for an '85 or newer 22R/RE. In 1985, Toyota redesigned the 22R/RE, it got a shorter deck and different pistons as well as a different head so, it required a shorter chain as well: http://www.lcengineering.com/TechNotes/TechNote39.htm . Just have them get you the right year chain. Those auto parts store guys (sometimes) are clueless---------Hans
