Hi all,

Well I am a Toyota pickup owner again after selling my 95 about 18mo ago.

This truck is a low mile all orig. as i can tell and was told, 51,000 miles.

it runs great and has pretty good tires as well, also has a newly rebuilt tranny and a new clutch.

The truck was owned by one family for all but the first 10 years, a friend had it before that.

What is that little "plug" thing on top of the is it the steering box there? reason i ask is because I was wondering how to check fluid as when you steer the wheel at very slow speeds it makes a little noise, there is no power steering.

NOW FOR THE UNDERNEATH. not as clean, but would like advice as to what I should do to stop more rust. I cant see any actual holes in the frame or anything so it could be a lot worse but lots of brown down there!

one good thing, NO OIL LEAKS or any leaks for that matter!
also even had the owners manual in the glove box.

so far I am happy with this truck!

reaqlly nice truck man.. maybe a wire wheel to the whole underside then take the por15 or some other tremclad or rust paint and go nuts!!!

nice looking truck, as for the rust underneath, take a look at the frame near the back, right where that cab and box join, on the inside. usually they will start rusting from the inside out, so feel in through those little holes that are around there if it's starting to go then the frame will be half full of rust chips

so around where the cab and boc meet, so in the middle? will por-15 stop rust? this truck will for the most part be inside during winter and I can use a freshwater hose whenever I want to spray the underside off. should keep the rust down.

por-15 does a good job of stopping rust on the outside, but it cant do much for the inside of the frame, unless you can figure out how to paint it. from the sounds of it you should be fine, it looks like just a lot of surface rust. around here pretty much all the trucks have patched frames by now. my old one was "good" for around here and it had 2 small holes and the whole thing was scaling inside and out

I did not see any holes just a lot of surface rust, is there a method of removing the surface rust? can it be done as it sits now without removing the bed and such?

oh its an 82 if anyone was wondering.

so does anyone know about the steering noise when you are stopped or going slow in a parking lot? kinda a "swish swish" as you turn the wheel. it has no power steering. wondering how to check the fluid in the steering box.

wow, that's a cherry interior. hope i can get mine looking like that soon. too bad about the rust, but i guess that's still in good shape for minnesota.

that cap on the top of the steering box looks to me to be similar to a differential vent cap. for the steering box, I will check my FSM in the morning (am at work right now) and see what i can find out for you.

That interior and cab is the Holy Grail of 1st Gens. Very nice find.

Yeah, I can hear like a sound when you steer the wheel at very low speeds or stopped, so just wanted to see if the steering box fluid was low? and I grabbed that little cap and it just turns back and forth freely, like its not a cap at all lol???

yes, that is stock. it is extremely basic but actually works well. just am/fm with those old school push the button to move the bar over to the preset station haha.

that annoying buzzer even works when you don't have your seat belt on
