I don't remember exactly what I've read...but I would think that it's mostly going to be the same. How much of the engine do you have? The differences might be the how the intake and exaust manifolds match up to the head. But if you have the block, head, and intake and exhaust, you might not run into much at all that's different.

isn't the engine mounts different between the 81, 82, 83 and 84-85 trucks? Also depends on which 85 motor as they had different exhaust manifolds. Intakes should be the same as they both have square intake ports.

I put a 82 22r into a 86 4x4 without much problem. The exhaust manifold needed a hole drilled for a head stud, but I had a manifold that had it drilled to use. mine going into a 4x4 the oil pan and pickup tube had to be changed. other than than everything changed alright. The 82 was an sr5 model so the holes lined up for the power steering, air cond ect. The exhaust manifold gasket used was for turbo engine which is a low compression head.
I am not familiar with the 85 model motor but it should work.

you can download the FSM service manual for the 85 using the link in my SIg.
here is a link to some vacuum line diagrams I took pics out of my '81 FSM...

if you can enlarge it you can make out more detail..

the motor mounts should not be an issue IMO...I bought the generic 22R T-G bomb proof mounts, they don't list a difference: http://www.trail-gear.com/bomb-proof-motor-mount-kit
