have a look at the site .. read the info. $500.00 dosent even cover the cost of LABOR to build one , never mind the materials involved !! not even close !! I dont work for FREE , do you ?
I dont just "make up" the pricing on a whim , it is carfully caculated , and FAIR , and really , though cost of materials has gone up over the last 10 years 98% , we have NOT raised our pricing on beds , they are still the same pricing we had 10 years ago . So If you want a DEAL , buy NOW before we have to raise the prices or worse yet , you dont have this option available anymore . I have responsabilities , to keep the shop I have and people I have working for me working , feeding there families . I am a business , not a charity , sometimes I think you guys forget that ?

Don't get me wrong Slacker, I know you guys put out an exceptional product. I was just joking about the discount stuff - I know businesses that give stuff away don't stay in business very long. You get what you pay for. I've seen what $1,500 fiberglass beds look like and it isn't anything I would want to bolt on my truck! I hope to send my business to you someday if I don't miraculously find an good original bed (so please don't stop making them!). I apologize if I offended you with my sarcasm.

Considering that alot of fly-by-night fiberglass body panel companies have come and gone with shoddy work to show for it, I think your products stand far out in terms of quality and immediacy of support.

Slacker,
As Kawa said, was joking around. A fiberglass bed wasn't an option I was even concidering untill I saw your products. I feel your prices are more than fair for the product you are offering and if I had the money you'd have my order right now. It was a gripe about having to concider hacking a third gen bed to fit due to the thickness of my wallet (or lack there of).
Thank you for your help keeping these early yota's looking good and I'm very interested to see how your trecker conversion kit comes out.

Stumbled across a pretty cool truck on for sale ($9,500) AutoTrader today. It's an '81 with a 1993-97 Ford Ranger Splash bed. Looks pretty cool and nearly seamless. Since I'm having a hard time finding a decent 1st gen bed on the East Coast, I'm thinking that I might try this for a while until I go with ToyotaFiberglass later on down the road. What do you all think about this:

The body lines actually don't match up too bad. The rocker panel seems to be a little more narrow on the cab than the bed, but the curve on it seems to match well. Narrowing that section would be a quick fab job. The body line near the bed rail seems to line up well with the top bodyline on the cab around the door handle. The middle body line on the cab and bed are different, but I want to fill and shave that body line on the cab anyway. I think it would be a good match for the time being.
Currently, I have the engine out of the truck for a rebuild and I will be popping off the cab soon to clean up and patch any issues with the frame and suspension. As soon as the cab goes back on I want to be driving it again so I don't want to have to wait to find decent a bed or save up to buy a fiberglass bed, but I still want it to look fairly decent.

I'm not generally a fan of stepsides, but that looks pretty good, minus the convertable top. I think my old girl would be so angry about having a non-toyota bed, she'd throw a rod in protest, but she's temprimental like that.

Me likey. With the soft top, it's kind of like an HJ75 with a soft top.
It would be cooler to retro fit first-gen tail lights into the Ranger bed.

The step side ranger bed I can tell you will not fit in stock for on a 3rd gen, Dunno if that gives you any clues but here's my current project.
Note that the bed is just laid on, but it will require shortening the bed between the wheels and cab, also I'll likely end up exposing some chassis so I'll be chopping that off and going with a custom bumper.
