1980 pickup Oil idiot light flickering.

While test driving my '80, the oil light started flickering. I pulled over checked the oil, all was good. According to the temp gauge it was not running hot, blah blah blah.....The OIL idiot light flickers when hitting a bump, i figure like most all the other wires on this truck a rat prolly chewed the insulation off and it is hitting something. My question is where is the sensor located on the engine? I really have not looked yet just seeing if someone can point me in the right direction.

Thanks,
Stephen

Right hand side (passenger), down by the motor mount.

I'd probably first verify that you are in fact not losing oil pressure before driving it much more. Remove the sensor, install a gauge and confirm you've got oil pressure. If you aren't having oiling problems, then you can start to track down the wiring.

That would be the safest bet in my book. Driving a motor with no oil pressure will destroy the bearings in no-time-flat

How many miles and how much abuse?

I have a Chevy w/ 130k and a flickering oil light led to a thrown rod.

72K miles. I was right. there was prolly a 8" section of insulation on the wire that was completely exposed and rubbing on the air conditioner compressor bracket. Got some liquid tape and electrical tape and it is fine now. Took it for a test drive and no more flickering light.
